There’s no limit to how many shared users you can have on the Ring app. However, if you don’t know how to accept or add a shared user, you might be the only one who has access.
Accepting a shared user on Ring is easy. Whether you’ve purchased the Ring Doorbell or Ring Stickup Cam, the steps are all the same. All you need is your device, the Ring app, a Wi-Fi connection, and a few moments of your time.
How to Accept a Shared User Invite on Ring
If someone added you as a shared user on Ring, you can accept the invite by clicking the link sent to your email. If you didn’t get the message, try checking your spam folder or make sure that the owner typed in the right email address.
Keep in mind that once you’ve clicked the link to accept, you will have to create a Ring account to act as a shared user. This requires you to share your email address and create a password. It shouldn’t matter what domain you’re using; Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, and other providers should work fine.
From there, you should be able to open the Ring app and make configurations.
Note: The process of accepting an invitation is the same whether you’re inviting a shared user or a guest user. Yet, this may vary, depending on what product you purchased. For instance, if you’re inviting a user to your Ring Alarm, you need to create a pin code for that user.
How Can Someone Add Me As a Shared User?
When someone adds you as a shared user on Ring, they have to follow this process:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap on the three lines on the upper left-hand side.
- Select “Devices.”
- Choose the device you want to share.
- Select “Shared User.”
- Enter the email of the person they want to share access with.
- Tap “Add User.”
- Tap “Send Invite.”
Once the owner completes these steps, you should receive an email invitation to become a shared user. Simply follow the link and steps provided to create your own Ring account.
Note: A shared user or guest user cannot add others to the app. Only the owner can do that.
Shared User Invite Not Working: Troubleshooting
Here are some troubleshooting methods that Ring owners could try to resolve the problem:
Make Sure You Entered the Right Email Address
If you didn’t enter the shared user’s correct email address, they won’t be able to accept the invite. Confirm their email address and re-enter it. Ask for a second email address if the first one doesn’t work.
Ask the Shared User to Check Their Spam Box or Other Folders
Obviously, your invitation isn’t spam, but for whatever reason, the shared user’s email account might think so. Ask them to check all of their email folders for the invitation. Make sure that they didn’t somehow block you or Ring’s email address.
Resend the Invitation
Suppose your partner or roommate deleted Ring’s invitation by accident. Not a problem. To resend the invitation:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap “Settings.”
- Select “Users.”
- Choose the user you want to re-invite.
- Tap “Resend Invite.”
Needless to say, you don’t have to type in their email again.
Check Your User Status
If you’re not the owner, you can’t add other people to your Ring account. You can check your user status by viewing your account settings in the app.
You might not be the owner if you purchased the device from another user. You need to delete them from the app to make yourself the new owner. You can learn more about this process by clicking here.
Make Sure Your App Is Up to Date
If the Ring app isn’t up to date, you might have difficulty accessing all of its features. You can check updates in the Google Play Store or App Store, depending on what type of phone you have.
Reset Your Device
As a last resort, if your invite still isn’t going through, try resetting your Ring device. How to do so depends on what type of device you have. You can learn more by reading your product’s user manual.
By following the steps we listed above, you can add shared users to Ring at any time. If you were invited as a shared user, you can accept the invitation by checking your email. From there, you can access a host of features in the Ring app.
