Sending or accepting a Shared User invite on Ring is easy. All you need is your device, the Ring app, a Wi-Fi connection, and a few moments of your time.
How to Accept a Shared User Invite on Ring
Adding a Shared User to Ring allows you to connect your account to more than one phone.
If someone added you as a Shared User on Ring, you can accept the invite by clicking the link sent to your email.
If you didn’t get the message, check your spam folder and ensure the owner typed in the right email address.
Keep in mind that once you’ve clicked the link to accept, you will have to create and log into a Ring account to act as a Shared User. From there, you should be able to open the Ring app and view the camera that’s shared with you.
Note: The process of accepting an invitation is the same whether you’re inviting a Shared User or a guest user. However, this may vary depending on the device you have. For instance, if you’re inviting a user to your Ring Alarm, you need to create a pin code for that user.
How Do I Add a Shared User on the Ring App?
If you have a Ring Camera or Doorbell you’d like to share with another member of your household, you can follow this process:
- Open the Ring App on your smartphone or tablet.
- Tap “Device Settings.”
- Press “Shared Access,” then “Add User.”
- Enter the new user’s email address and press the Ring Doorbell or camera you want to share access to.
- Tap “Send Invite.”
Now, the Shared User can click the link sent to their email and create their own Ring account.
Shared users do not have the same level of access as the owner. For example, they can’t add other Shared Users or delete video recordings.
Ring Shared User Invite Not Working: Troubleshooting
If you added a Shared User to your Ring account but they didn’t get an email, or if they can’t access the device you shared with them, you’ll need to do some troubleshooting:
- Make sure you entered the right email address
- Resend the invitation
- Check your own user status
- Update the Ring app
- Reset the device
Make Sure You Entered the Right Email Address
The only way for a Shared User to access a Ring device is to accept the invite in their email. If you didn’t enter the correct email address, they won’t be able to accept the invite.
Make sure you typed in the email address correctly. You might have missed a letter or entered the wrong domain name. If the email address is correct, have the user check their spam or junk folder.
Obviously your invitation isn’t spam, but the Shared User’s email account might think so. Ask them to check all their email folders for the invitation, then make sure they didn’t somehow block you or Ring’s email address.

Resend the Invitation
Sometimes emails take a while to go through. Sending the invite again might push it through more quickly.
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap “Settings.”
- Select “Users.”
- Choose the user you want to re-invite.
- Tap “Resend Invite.”
Check Your Own User Status
Shared users cannot add other Shared Users to another person’s Ring Camera.
Unless you are the person who originally registered the device, you are not the account owner and, therefore, cannot add Shared Users.
The only person who can change the owner of a Ring device is the original owner. If you’re the primary user, ask the old owner to make you the new owner.
Update the Ring App
Using an outdated version of the Ring app can give you problems. If you’re still having trouble adding a Shared User to your Ring account, open your device’s app store and check for updates.
If there’s an update available, download and install it. Then, try adding a Shared User again.
Reset Your Device
As a last resort, if your invite still isn’t going through, try resetting your Ring device. The steps you’ll need to take to do so depend on which device you have, but you can find out how by reading your device’s user manual.
Check out our guides for resetting different Ring devices here:
- Ring Video Doorbell

After resetting your device, you’ll need to set it up in the Ring app again. But, you’ll probably be free of the technical issues preventing you from adding Shared Users.
