Having your entire ADT home security system intact is important, so if one of your ADT cameras diverges from the rest and is unresponsive, perhaps it’s time to reset it. Though resetting your camera is one avenue of potentially fixing it, a simple power cycle may do the trick and can also save you time adding your ADT device back into the ADT Pulse app. However, if this fails, and a reset seems like the best option for recovering your device, this article has got you covered.

To reset a wired ADT camera, press and hold the square button on the back for 15 seconds. For wireless ADT cameras, press and hold the small button on the back next to the power port for 10 seconds.

Performing a reset is the first of two major steps in getting your device back online. These reset instructions will certainly guide you through this part, but refer to “After Resetting Your ADT Camera” below for the second half of this process, which details how to add your device back into your ADT Pulse app.

How to Reset Wired ADT Cameras

If you want to reset a wired ADT camera, follow these steps:

  1. Have camera plugged into a power source; this will help indicate different steps during the reset process.
  2. Press and hold the square button on the back for 15 seconds.
  3. Wait 1-2 minutes for the device to power back on.

How to Reset Wireless ADT Cameras

For wireless ADT cameras, you can reset them following these steps:

  1. Press and hold the small button on the back of the camera located next to the power port for 10 seconds. (For a visual of what button to press to engage the reset process, you can refer to page four of this ADT informational PDF.)
  2. Wait 1-2 minutes for the device to power back on.

After Resetting Your ADT Camera

After your camera goes through the reset process, you will no longer have access to it in the ADT Pulse app. This is because the “reset” resets the device to manufacturer settings and erases its data from your ADT Pulse account. Therefore, more steps need to be followed to regain access.

To re-enroll your ADT camera in the ADT Pulse app:

  1. In the ADT Pulse app, click “Manage Devices.”
  2. Find the option for “Cameras.”
  3. Select the “Add Using WPS” button.
  4. Find the WPS PIN on the back of your ADT camera you are resetting. Enter this number into the first box under “Instructions.”
  5. At this point, the camera should flash green and amber-colored lights.
  6. Select “Continue.”
  7. Press and hold the square button on the back of your camera for five more seconds.
  8. The reset process will conclude when the camera flashes a green light. You will now regain access to your camera and can rename it.

Alternative Method: Power Cycling Your ADT Camera

Frustration around something as important as your home security system can leave you feeling like a full reset is the only way to solve your problems. But there are actually much simpler alternatives, one of them being power cycling.

Though it involves just disconnecting and reconnecting power to your device, it can be handy for fixing all sorts of issues. On top of a power cycle having the potential to fix your needs, you don’t need to re-enroll your device in the ADT Pulse app, saving labor on your behalf.

Here’s how to power cycle:

  1. If either your ADT Pulse Gateway or offline camera is not receiving power, try plugging it into a different outlet and checking the cord connection. An easy way to check if your device is receiving electricity is if it is displaying an LED light.
  2. Once these devices are receiving electricity flow, perform the power cycle by unplugging both the Gateway and the camera.
  3. Wait around five minutes before plugging in the Gateway, followed by the camera.
  4. Check your ADT Pulse app to see if the camera is still offline. If it is online and working, your problem has been solved!
  5. If you are still experiencing issues, you can try moving the camera closer to Gateway, followed by completing another power cycle. Remove power to the camera, wait a moment, and then plug it back in.

Consult with an ADT Expert

Sometimes there may be underlying problems with your ADT devices that can’t be solved with a power cycle or reset. In this case, calling an ADT professional will likely result in a longer turnaround for your device getting fixed, but it will certainly be a solution. To consult with an ADT expert, call (800)-521-1734.
