Step 1: Put the Device into Setup Mode
- Locate the reset button on your TP-Link Kasa Smart Plug.
- Press and hold the button for five seconds.
- Wait for the indicator light to start blinking (blue or another color depending on your device). This indicates the plug is now in setup mode.
Step 2: Open the Kasa App
- Open the Kasa app on your phone.
- Tap the plus (+) icon in the top-right corner to add a new device.
- Select the device type (e.g., Smart Plug Mini).
Step 3: Connect to the Device Wi-Fi
- Follow the on-screen instructions until you’re prompted to connect to the device’s Wi-Fi.
- On an iPhone:
- Swipe down to access the Control Center.
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi icon, then select the TP-Link network from the list.
- On an Android:
- Navigate to Wi-Fi settings and select the TP-Link network.
Step 4: Reconnect to Your Wi-Fi Network
- Return to the Kasa app and tap Already Connected.
- When prompted, choose Do Not Reset to retain your schedules and settings.
- Select your home Wi-Fi network, enter the password, and tap Join.
Step 5: Finalize the Setup
- Once connected, confirm the device’s name and location.
- Test the smart plug by turning it on and off through the app to ensure it’s working correctly.
And that’s it! While it’s a bit inconvenient that you can’t update Wi-Fi directly from the app, this method keeps all your settings intact.
