Turning on the TV to tune in to the news, your favorite show, or a new movie, can be a great source of joy and relaxation. Thousands of people worldwide use TV as a way to relax and rewind after a long day of work. This can be extremely enjoyable until the Insignia TV stops working properly.
If you are an Insignia TV owner experiencing a black screen and no picture, you are not alone. Unfortunately, this is a common tech issue that sprouts up with TVs. Read on to learn how to fix this problem and get your TV back in order.
Insignia TV Blues
It can be frustrating when your Insignia TV decides to only share a black screen with you instead of the show you were hoping to watch. Unfortunately, when it comes to technology, it does occasionally malfunction. Don’t fret, though, as there are some easy fixes you can utilize to get your Insignia TV back in working order again.
Some of the most common reasons an Insignia TV has a black screen without a picture are power failure, broken backlighting, incompatible third-party devices, and software problems. These issues can render a TV useless due to technology sensitive nature.
Troubleshooting these issues is relatively easy and can be performed in the comfort of your home. Read on to learn more about these easy fixes and how to execute them.
Power Check
The first thing any Insignia owner should do is check different power sources that lead to the TV. First, get on the ground and follow the cable that leads to the TV to power it. Follow it to the outlet. After identifying the outlet, turn off the power and check if there are any loose wires within the outlet itself. Tighten them or hire an electrician to do so.
If this isn’t the problem, then it is time to check the wires and cables leading to the Insignia TV. Sometimes these wires begin to fray and will not properly send power to the TV. This can cause the TV not to turn on, rendering the screen black. It can also cause the TV to short circuit, causing it to try and need to be replaced. If the wires are good, move on to the next tip.
Another common issue with Insignia TVs is that the power turns off. Make sure this also isn’t an issue causing a black screen.
Wily Remote
Occasionally, the remote control of the TV can be part of the issue. If the remote controller is trying to turn the TV on and is set to a different input than the video cable is plugged into, it can result in a black screen with no picture. Take the remote, press the input button, and select a different input. Do this until the screen comes back.
The remote can also be out of batteries. When the remote is out of batteries, you do not always realize that it has died and will no longer turn on the TV. This can be frustrating but an easy fix if it’s the case. Pop the back of the remote, swap out the batteries, and try turning on the TV again. Hopefully, it fixes the problem.
Backlight Problems
The backlight installed on the TV lights up all the individual pixels needed to properly view the show or movie on the screen. These pixels are dependent on the light. Without this backlighting, they are unable to project imaging. If the backlight has died out, an image will not appear on the screen. Instead, it will be black, and no picture will appear.
If the backlight is a problem, it is unlikely you will be able to fix it at home. The entire TV needs to be taken apart to solve this issue. The best way to deal with it is to either bring it to a local TV or appliance mechanic or simply replace the TV. If you try to fix it yourself, you can void the warranty or cause more of a problem than the TV originally had.
The Third Wheel
Third-party devices are great for opening up your horizons for different streaming services. They can, however, be inconvenient when they begin to mess around with the functionality of an Insignia TV. Sometimes when a third-party device is installed, it can conflict with the firmware and render the TV useless.
To solve this, simply remove the third-party device, power down the TV, wait five minutes, and try to power the TV back on. If the TV is still showing a black screen, it may not be because of the third-party device, it could be due to another malfunction.
Your Insignia TV might also be turning off automatically.
Software in Disrepair
Another common reason why an Insignia TV will present only with a black screen, and no picture, is due to out-of-date software. The software needs to be updated regularly, or the TV will not function. The only way to boot the TV back up to fix this is to perform a hard reset. Follow these steps to do so:
- Grab the power cable and unplug it from the outlet.
- Leave the TV unplugged for at least 30 minutes.
- Plug the TV back in.
- If the TV does turn on, it will act as if the TV has just turned on for the first time and initial prompt setup. After setting up, make sure to update the firmware.
If a user can successfully hard reset the TV and then update the firmware, the user should be able to use the TV again without a problem.
Back On Screen
If an Insignia TV does not work after all of the fixes we have provided, it may be time to buy a new TV. Many new Insignia TV models are hitting the market with advanced features and improved image quality. Maybe the black screen is a good thing, after all.
