If you have a TV, you’d know that it needs a remote or a similar device in order to control it and watch your favorite movies and TV shows. But, not many know that remotes made for specific brands of TVs are useful for competitor brand TVs as well. So, how do you program a DirecTV remote for an LG TV?

Keep reading to find out how to program two different kinds of DirecTV remotes for your LG TV, both manually and using the IR/RF method.

Why Is Your DirecTV Remote Not Connected?

The first step in pairing your DirecTV remote to an LG TV is knowing whether your remote needs a simple reset, or if it is being paired to your LG TV for the first time. If your remote was previously connected and stopped working, sometimes a simple reset is all you need.

A simple reset will just require you to press the reset button on your receiver for at least fifteen seconds, or completely unplug your receiver for fifteen seconds.

What Kind of DirecTV Remote Do You Have?

The second step in pairing your DirecTV remote to an LG TV is figuring out what kind of remote you have. This can include a universal remote or a Genie remote.

A universal remote can be paired with up to four devices, while the Genie remote features extras such as onscreen descriptions and detailed channel guides. These remotes each have different ways of pairing, so you need to know which is which before you begin.

How to Pair a DirecTV Universal Remote to an LG TV

Follow these steps to pair a DirecTV Universal remote to an LG TV.

  • Step 1: Press the MENU button on your universal remote. This is the white button in the middle, directly underneath the orange SELECT button and the down arrow button.
