As a parent relying on a baby monitor to keep your little one safe and sound while sleeping in another room while you complete your daily tasks, it can be quite panic-inducing to look over and see an unviewable dark or even completely black screen. When depending on a device to monitor your children, you don’t want to worry about whether or not it will continue to work.

If this has happened to you, then more than likely, what has happened is you just need to adjust the brightness settings on your HelloBaby monitor, or possibly the screen has gone to sleep. If you hit any button and the screen comes back to life at full brightness, you must adjust the video off settings. There are instructions below for both.

How to Adjust a too Dark Screen on a HelloBaby Monitor

The most likely culprit of a screen that is too dark on a HelloBaby monitor is the brightness setting on the display parent unit. All LCD screens usually have a brightness adjustment somewhere and, depending on the lighting of the room you are in, will need an adjustment from time to time. If the room you are in is very bright, then you will need to raise the brightness.

  1. Press OK to Open Menu on Parent Unit
  2. Navigate to the Brightness Icon (a Sun)
  3. Use the up and down arrow keys to select the desired brightness level

If you are finding that the screen is too dim or the screen is in black and white, then your HelloBaby monitor system may be in night mode. If that is the case, you must get it out of night mode before adjusting the brightness level for the day mode settings.

How to Change the Brightness Settings on a HelloBaby Monitor

Changing the brightness settings on your HelloBaby monitor can significantly affect how well you can see the LCD screen in brighter-lit environments. It is important to note that a brighter screen will cause your battery to run down faster due to more power being used to light the screen brighter. A balance of brightness and battery life is necessary.

How to Change the Brightness on a HelloBaby Monitor:

  1. Press the OK button on the front of the Display Parent Unit to open the Parent Unit Settings Menu
  2. Using the left and right directional arrows to navigate the menu, find the Brightness Level Icon, a square icon with a Sun in the middle.
  3. Using the up and down directional arrows, adjust the brightness level to your desired level – The HelloBaby monitor has a brightness adjustment level from 1 to 5. The default brightness is level 3.

If that solved your problem, great! If not, the problem you are having may be a video off-timer issue, and it’s possible that adjusting the video off settings will allow you to see the screen in your current environment.

How to Adjust the Video Off Timer Settings on a HelloBaby Monitor

It’s possible what you perceive as a dark screen is a completely black screen. If that is the case adjusting the Video Off Timer settings in the options menu will allow you to change how often the screen goes to sleep. That will keep the display’s screen lit for longer and cost more battery life. As before, a balance must be found.

How to Adjust the Video Off Timer Settings on a HelloBaby Monitor:

  1. Press the OK button on the front of the Display Parent Unit to open the Parent Unit Settings Menu
  2. Using the left and right directional arrows to navigate the menu, find the Video Off Timer Icon, which is a square icon with a computer monitor with an X on the display on it.
  3. Using the up and down directional arrows, you can select for the display parent unit’s screen to turn off after 5 minutes, 15 minutes, or 30 minutes if no buttons have been pressed.
  4. While the video goes off when using the Video Off Timer, the audio remains on
  5. Press any button to wake the screen back up

Hopefully, either the screen brightness or changing the video off-timer settings fixed your problem. If your problem persists, you may need to reset your device.

If All Else Fails…

If all else fails, try resetting your device. If adjusting the brightness didn’t help and changing the video off-timer settings didn’t make a difference, you may need to do a reset on your device. If a reset doesn’t work, you may have damaged hardware and need to contact HelloBaby for a replacement.

Conclusion

It can be frustrating troubleshooting electronics but try these few fixes, and hopefully, your problem is minor, and one of them solves it. If not, It is possible to get replacement baby unit cameras or display parent units separately on Amazon.
