Finally, you feel confident enough to let your child sleep without Nanit recording them. Yet, if you’re giving the device to someone else or selling it online, you’ll need to change owners. This will remove the connection between you, as a user, and your device.

However, this is not something you can do on your own. Nanit recommends contacting its customer support team, who will do it for you. Continue reading to learn more about connecting Nanit’s customer support team and best practices for when you plan on changing owners.

Perform a Factory Reset

Performing a factory reset will revert your device to a point as though you purchased it for the first time. It will forget your Wi-Fi network and erase all settings.

Now, Nanit recommends contacting their customer support team to change your camera’s owner. However, if you aren’t too concerned about who will own your camera next, a simple factory reset alone can do the trick.

To reset your Nanit Pro Camera:

  1. Plug in and turn on your camera.
  2. Locate the button near the power cord on the back.
  3. Hold down on the button for 10 seconds.
  4. Release when the blue light starts to blink.

To reset your Nanit Plus or Nanit Original Camera:

  1. Turn the camera on.
  2. Locate the pinhole on the back of the camera.
  3. Stick a paperclip into the pinhole.
  4. Wait for the camera’s red light to flash and listen for a low sound (although you might not hear it).
  5. Wait for the night light to flash twice.

Nanit will tell you to go into the app and connect your device to the internet. If you’re giving the device to someone else, you can put it back in the box.

If you feel more comfortable contacting Nanit’s customer service to perform the reset process with you and remove you as the current owner, continue to the steps below.

Make Sure You’re the Current Owner

Before you call Nanit’s customer service to help with the process of switching device owners, make sure that you’re the registered owner of the camera. Nanit’s customer support team will only make changes if the camera is registered in your name with your contact information.

To check if you’re listed as the camera’s owner:

  1. Open the Nanit app.
  2. Navigate to the side menu.
  3. Select your camera.
  4. Tap your baby’s settings.
  5. Go to the “Parenting Team” list.

If you see your name listed, then you’re the registered owner of the camera.

What if You’re Not the Camera’s Owner?

When you own and register a Nanit, it classifies users into three categories: owners, admins, and viewers.

Admins can add other admins and viewers whenever. However, you can’t upgrade an admin to owner. So, if you’re not the camera’s owner, you will need the email address of the person who is. You will be asked to provide this information when you call Nanit’s customer support team.

Find the Email Address Associated with Your Nanit Account

It’s not uncommon these days to have multiple email addresses: one for home, one for work, and one for social media. If you don’t know which email address is connected to your Nanit camera, you could have a hard time changing owners.

To see what email address you’ve registered the device under:

  1. Open the Nanit app.
  2. Navigate to the side menu bar.
  3. Select “Your Settings.”

This screen will show the email address that connected to the device. Once you’ve confirmed that you’re the camera’s owner and have the email address, you can contact Nanit’s customer support team.

Contact Nanit’s Customer Support Team

You have these choices when connecting with Nanit’s customer support team:

Send a Message

Nanit notes that the easiest way to connect with their team is via email. By sending an electronic request, you can state your problem where a representative will get back to you “as soon as possible.” First, click here to access the page. Then, be prepared to give this information:

  • The email address that’s registered to your Nanit
  • Your message’s subject
  • A description of your issue (being that you want to change owners)
  • Your name
  • Your country
  • A summary of your problem via the dropdown bar (“I need technical help with Nanit”)

You can also include photo attachments if you believe that would explain your problem. This could include your device’s serial number or any error messages.

Call Nanit’s Customer Service

Although Nanit prefers the method we described above, you can also call Nanit yourself. Its team’s availability may depend on the time of day and day of the week. You can dial 1(866) 696-2648.

Conclusion

We think that performing a factory reset is a perfectly feasible way of wiping your Nanit’s memory and changing owners. Nanit, however, recommends sending their team an inquiry online to change owners.
