Ring Protect plans are optional services that allow you to do more with your Ring Cameras, such as recording, viewing saved footage, professional support, and discounts. The Amazon Prime membership covers two-day delivery options and the Amazon Prime Video streaming service. Since Amazon acquired Ring, is it possible to have a combination of services under Amazon Prime so you can get Ring Protect for free?

Unfortunately, Amazon Prime does not include any of the Ring Protect Plan subscription services. Amazon Prime remains exclusive to product shipping and streaming services. The three tiers of Ring Protect Plans remain exclusive to Ring.

Below, we’ll cover why Ring Protect plans are not free with Prime and which plan option is best for you and your Ring devices.

Why Isn’t Ring Protect Free with Amazon Prime?

While it would be an incredible convenience if Ring Protect became part of Amazon Prime’s membership offerings, it’s understandable why it isn’t:

Amazon Prime membership already comes with many benefits for $12.99/month and $118.99/year. Adding Ring Protect would drive up the cost of membership while only benefitting a select number of people who opt for Ring Protect or Ring Protect Plus.

Can You Subscribe to Ring Through Amazon?

Ring Protect plans aren’t a part of Amazon Prime Membership; however, you can subscribe to a Ring Protect plan through Amazon, which helps to keep subscription services all in one place for easy control.

To subscribe to Ring Protect through Amazon, you have to have an Amazon account, and it has to be linked to your Ring account. To do this, open the Ring app (Apple Store or Google Play Store). Then:

  1. Select the three horizontal line icons at the top of the screen.
  2. Select Account Settings.
  3. Select Link Your Amazon Account > Link Accounts.
  4. Enter your Ring password.
  5. Sign in to Amazon on the next screen, and now your accounts are successfully linked.

Now you can subscribe to a Ring Protect Plan through Amazon, control all of your Ring devices with Alexa, and keep track of your plan on Amazon.com.

Without a Ring Protect plan, you’re limited to Live View, two-way audio, and receive motion alerts. After you link your accounts, you’ll have the opportunity to choose between Ring Protect Basic and Ring Protect, and Ring Protect Plus under the Amazon Devices category on Amazon.com or the Amazon app.

Once you’ve chosen a plan, you can access your Ring Protect subscription from your Amazon account either through the website or on the smartphone app.

Which Ring Protect Plan Is Best?

There are technically three tiers—if you include no plan, with its limited capabilities as a tier—with Protect Basic and Protect Plus in the subscription category.

If you’re looking for a plan that will serve as a full-home security service with multiple Ring Devices and Cameras, the Ring Protect Plus plan is the best. It comes with professional monitoring and supports multiple devices for $10/month or $100/year.

The Ring Protect Basic plan is similar to the Plus plan; however, it is only for one device and doesn’t include professional monitoring, an extended warranty, or Plus plan discounts on Ring devices.

If you have several Ring devices, it makes more sense to go with the Ring Protect Plus plan. There’s no sense in sticking with the Basic and leaving several devices uncovered.

With the Protect Plus plan, you can also take advantage of the 10% discount on Ring devices when purchasing through Amazon. There’s nothing additional that you have to do. So long as your accounts are linked, the discount is automatically applied when you make your purchase. The extended warranty also applies to Protect Plus members. The standard warranty is two years, and with the extension, you get an extra year of coverage against device failure.

Final Thoughts

An extra $10 a month may seem like an extra pocket-grab, especially considering that Ring is now under the sole proprietorship of Amazon. However, Amazon Prime membership comes with a decent streaming service replete with original content, exclusive Amazon deals, and Prime shipping on all eligible orders.

That’s a lot more than Netflix, or any similar service, can say. Ring Protect Plus, in the meantime, comes with 24/7 professional home monitoring, discounts, warranty, coverage over multiple devices, and everything else that the basic plan and no plan come with.

Both deals are considerably giving for monthly subscription costs that are lower than Netflix’s standard package. Ultimately, the Protect Plus plan is well worth it, especially if you have multiple cameras and Ring devices to cover. Of course, if you have a lone Ring device, such as the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2, and have no plans to add new devices, then the Basic plan is more than sufficient and a drop in the bucket at $3 a month.
