Removing backgrounds from images in Canva is straightforward but requires a Pro Plan. If you’re on the free plan, you can access this feature by signing up for a 30-day trial. Here’s how to do it:

Steps to Remove a Background

  1. Open Canva and Create a Design:
    • Start a new project or open an existing one.
    • Set your canvas size (e.g., 500 x 500 pixels).
  2. Upload Your Image:
    • Drag and drop your image onto the canvas and resize it as needed.
  3. Use the Background Remover Tool:
    • Select the image, then click BG Remover in the top toolbar.
    • Canva will automatically remove the background.
  4. Edit the Background Removal (Optional):
    • If the remover tool missed anything:
      • Click Edit Image, then go to Background Remover Settings in the sidebar.
      • Use the Erase or Restore brushes to fine-tune the image.
      • Adjust the brush size to work on small or large areas.

Exporting Your Transparent Image

  1. Download Your Edited Image:
    • Click Share in the upper-right corner and select Download.
    • Choose PNG as the file type.
    • Check the Transparent Background box.
  2. Save and Verify:
    • Name your file (optional) and hit Download.
    • Open the file to ensure the background has been successfully removed.
