If you’re ready to take a break or say goodbye to Facebook, here’s how to delete or deactivate your account. I’ll walk you through both mobile and desktop steps.
On Mobile (iPhone/Android)
- Open Facebook and go to the menu (bottom right on iPhone).
- Scroll to Account Center (in the Meta section) and tap on it.
- Go to Personal Details and select Account Ownership and Control.
- Choose Deactivation or Deletion.
- Deactivation is temporary.
- Deletion is permanent (but you’ve got 30 days to change your mind).
- Hit Continue, pick a reason for leaving, then download your data if you want.
- Enter your password to confirm, and hit Delete or Deactivate.
And boom—you’re done on mobile!
On Desktop
- Log into Facebook and click on Account (top right).
- Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings.
- On the left, find Account Center, and open Personal Details.
- Click on Account Ownership and Control and choose Deactivation or Deletion.
- Pick the account you want to delete or deactivate, follow the prompts, and confirm with your password.
