Ecobee manufactures smart thermostats that can detect temperature changes and adjust based on the occupancy of your home. Vivint manufactures a range of smart home devices that all work together to automate your home. Because the products they create are so similar, some people wonder if they can use their Ecobee thermostat with their Vivint systems.
Currently, Ecobee smart thermostats are not compatible with any Vivint systems. However, they are compatible with a few other hubs, such as Google Assistant and Alexa. These systems have many of the same capabilities as Vivint, including remote temperature control.
Below, we will discuss more information about Ecobee, Vivint, and the devices each is compatible with. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know!
Is Ecobee Compatible With Vivint?
Smart home devices, like those made by Ecobee and Vivint, are great ways to monitor things at home when you’re not around. People rely mainly on Ecobee’s smart thermostats to easily control their homes’ temperatures and on Vivint to protect their homes against external threats.
While home security is the number one thing people rely on Vivint for, the company also offers a range of home automation devices. So, if you have an Ecobee smart thermostat, you may wonder if you can connect it to your Vivint system to control the temperature in your home remotely.
Unfortunately, Ecobee thermostats are currently not compatible with Vivint systems. However, Ecobee is compatible with many other smart home systems, and Vivint is compatible with a couple of other smart thermostats.
Which Smart Home Systems is Ecobee Compatible with?
If your home is equipped with a Vivint security or home automation system, you might be disappointed to learn that there is no way to connect your Ecobee thermostat. However, there are still many other smart home systems Ecobee can connect to. These include:
- Google Assistant
- Wink App
- Google Nest
- Apple devices
- Amazon Alexa
Below, we’ll discuss more information on each of these systems. Keep in mind that this is not an all-inclusive list, but touches on many of the most popular systems today.
Google Assistant allows you to use voice commands to check the thermostat in your home and adjust the temperature. You can connect the two devices through the Google Home or Assistant app.
SmartThings allows you to teach the thermostat to adjust itself, keeping your home at the same temperature no matter the weather outside. To connect these two devices, you will need to download the SmartThings app on your phone or tablet.
Wink allows you to view and adjust your thermostat’s settings from anywhere, whether you’re in the office or on the road. You can connect your thermostat to Wink through the Wink app, and if you have Wink Shortcuts and Robots, you can even use it to automate your home entirely!
Made by Google, Nest products work similarly to Google Assistant. Nest allows you to use voice commands to control your Ecobee smart thermostat. This is great if you wake up in the middle of the night and want to adjust the temperature without getting out of bed.
Apple devices are compatible with Ecobee smart thermostats through Apple HomeKit. You can use any Apple device to control your thermostat, including:
- Apple Watch
You can connect your Ecobee thermostat to Homekit by downloading the Ecobee App or using the Home App, which is automatically installed on all iPhones.
Amazon products, such as the Echo Dot and Echo Show, use Alexa voice commands to help you control different functions in your home. Simply state what you need to be adjusted, and it will do it for you.
For example, you can program Alexa to respond to the command, “Alexa, raise the temperature two degrees.” Any other smart home devices you connect to Alexa can also be automated through voice commands, essentially creating a smart home hub.
Is Vivint Compatible with Any Smart Thermostats?
Although you cannot connect your Ecobee thermostat to a Vivint system, two types of smart thermostats are compatible with the Vivint system. These include:
- Vivint Thermostat
- Nest Thermostat
The Vivint Thermostat is a good alternative to Ecobee, as it offers many of the same features. These include temperature control and lighting control.
It also offers water sensors to detect leaks and contact break-in sensors that let you know if someone is entering your home through a broken window or door.
The Nest Thermostat also has many of the same features, as well as carbon monoxide detection. This is a must-have if your home uses a gas heating system or you have any gas appliances.
Smart thermostats offer an easy way to control the temperature in your home, no matter where you are. Although the Ecobee smart thermostat does not work with Vivint, it does work with many other smart home systems.
Whatever device you decide to use them with, Vivint home systems and Ecobee smart thermostats make excellent additions to your home.
