Your Roku device currently allows unauthorized purchases or app installations because a PIN is not set up on your account. You can easily fix this by configuring your parental control settings through the Roku website.

  1. Go to roku.com on your computer or phone and sign in to your Roku account [0:22].
  2. Click on your profile icon and select “My account” from the dropdown menu [1:10].
  3. Scroll down to the “PIN preference” or “PIN/parental controls” section and click the update button to create your four-digit code [1:15].
  4. Once you have saved your new PIN, choose which actions require the code, such as subscribing to services, renting movies, or adding new channels [1:31].

Ninja Tip:

Remember that the Roku PIN only blocks purchases and app installs made directly through the Roku platform; it does not block in-app purchases made inside specific third-party apps like Netflix or Hulu. To restrict those, you must go into the settings menu within each of those individual apps to enable their own separate parental controls or purchase requirements.

If you ever need to start fresh, you can perform a factory reset by navigating to Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Factory reset.
