Your Roku remote does not control your TV volume or power. You can resolve this issue by following a few simple configuration steps.
- Ensure HDMI-CEC is enabled in your TV’s system settings, as this feature allows your TV to respond to external remote commands [0:28]. Different TV brands use unique names for this, such as Anynet+ for Samsung, SimpLink for LG, or Bravia Sync for Sony.
- Navigate to Settings > Remotes & devices on your Roku and select your remote [1:12].
- Choose “Set up remote for TV control” and follow the on-screen prompts for either the IR or CEC setup options [1:20].
- Confirm your TV brand when prompted so the Roku can automatically apply the correct remote codes [1:41].
- Check that your Roku device has a clear line of sight to the remote and move any physical objects blocking the signal.
Ninja Tip: Check the batteries in your remote first, as low power can often cause inconsistent signal strength even if the buttons still register. Replacing them with fresh, high-quality alkaline batteries often solves control issues without requiring any software re-programming.
If these steps do not work, perform a factory reset by navigating to Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Factory reset.
