The Yi Home Camera is a home surveillance device, typically with night vision, that connects easily to your home WiFi and helps keep an eye on your home.

Yi Home Camera – WiFi Password Error Fix in 6 Steps
More than likely, if your Yi Home Camera is giving you a WiFi password error, you have accidentally entered your WiFi password incorrectly.
If your WiFi password is correctly entered for your Yi Home Camera, you can try resetting your camera, the modem, and the router or checking the range.
There are a few different solutions you can test if your password information is correctly entered on your Yi Home Camera.
Check your Yi Home Camera WiFi Password is Correct
The password you should use to log in to your Yi Home Camera will be the same password you use to connect your mobile device to your WiFi network.
If you connect through the Yi Home App, then your camera should already have your WiFi information saved from the Yi Home App.
Ensure you are Using a 2.4 GHz WiFi Network
Many routers have dual-band antennas capable of separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. The Yi Home Camera must be connected to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
If you are unsure whether you are using a 2.4 GHz network, Google your router’s make and model number to see how to access the router’s settings.
Once you have access to your router’s settings, you can view which WiFi networks are set up and what their broadcasting SSID and passwords are.
Enable Location Services on your Mobile Device
If you are connected to a 2.4 GHz network, and your WiFi password is entered correctly, you may need to enable Location Services on your mobile device.
Connect Location Services to Yi Home App on Apple iOS Mobile Devices
The Yi Home App needs to recognize your location with your Yi Home Camera. You can allow this by turning on Location Services.
- Tap the Settings icon (small gear cog) on your iOS mobile device
- Scroll and select the Privacy option from the settings listed
- Tap Location Services
- Turn on Location Services
- Select Yi Home App from the list
- Select “Always” under Allow Location Access
Your iOS mobile device should now have the Location Services turned on and allowed on the Yi Home App.
Connect Location Services to Yi Home App on Android
The Yi Home App needs to recognize your location with your Yi Home Camera. You can allow your Android to be visible by connecting Location Services.
- Tap the Settings icon (small gear cog) on your Android mobile device
- Select Apps from the settings options listed
- Select Yi Home App from the list of available apps
- Select the Permissions section
- Tap the Location setting
- Select Allow only while using the app
Your Android device should now have the Location Service turned on and allowed on the Yi Home App.
Reboot your Home WiFi Router and Modem
Sometimes, modern devices can error unexpectedly or fail to connect due to a temporary bug in the works.
When this happens, you can often reboot your equipment and repair many minor bugs and hiccups.
Soft Reset your WiFi Router and Modem
- Unplug the power to your Router
- Unplug the power to your Modem
- Wait 5 minutes
- Plug the power back into your Modem and wait for the lights to be normal
- Plug the power back into your Router and wait for the lights to be normal
- Test to see if you are still having the WiFi password error with your Yi Home Camera
If you are still having trouble, your camera may be out of range of your WiFi router.
Make Sure the Camera is Withing Range of your Router
Depending on where your Yi Home Camera is set up, you may or may not find that your camera is out of range of your WiFi network.
If your desired camera location is outside your router’s operating range, a WiFi extender can broaden the range of your network.
Depending on the brand of WiFi extender you purchase, you can broaden your network range from 100 feet up to 400 feet.
Perform a Hard Reset
If none of these options work to fix your WiFi password error problem on your Yi Home Camera, then a hard reset might be in order.
A hard reset will set your Yi Home Camera back to factory settings. It will lose all saved information and be as if you had just taken it out of its original box.
If you perform a hard reset, you will lose all saved information and have to reinstall your camera to your Yi Home App.
Perform a Hard Reset on your Yi Home Camera
A hard reset should be one of the last things you do to troubleshoot:
- There is a reset button on the back of the Yi Home Camera next to the QR code.
- Use a paperclip or small pin to push and hold the reset button
- Press and hold the reset button until the yellow LED comes on or a voice says, “Reset is Successful.”
Your Yi Home Camera is now reset back to factory settings. You will have to set up your camera from scratch as if you had just purchased it brand new.
The WiFi Password Error on the Yi Home Camera is likely a misentered WiFi password, but you can try a few other solutions if your password is entered correctly.
