If you have a Wyze Gate Lock, you have probably noticed the little LED light on the device that lights up different colors. These colors are not in fact there for decoration but are there to communicate with you if the Gate Lock is having any trouble. So why is the Wyze Gate Lock blinking red?
If your Wyze Gate Lock is blinking red it means that it is offline. The next steps are simple, there are several solutions you can try to reconnect the Gate Lock to your home WiFi system and get it back online.
In order for your Wyze Gate Lock to work properly, it needs to be connected to the internet. Otherwise, you will not be able to reap all the benefits of a smart lock such as checking the status of the lock on your phone, getting alerts, and locking and unlocking the door from anywhere on your smartphone. So if the light is blinking red, which you now know means that the lock is offline, we are going to learn how to solve this problem and get you back online!
Why is Your Wyze Gate Lock Blinking Red?
The LED light on your Wyze Gate Lock will blink red if the lock is offline, i.e. not connected to your wireless network. Of course, this means that the lock is also not connectedto your phone, making the smart features of this lock essentially useless.
There are several reasons why your Gate Lock may have become disconnected from your home WiFi, and understanding the why is a very important step in figuring out how to solve the problem.
So let’s go through the several possibilities of why your Wyze Gate Lock is offline, and consequently, blinking red.
It’s the App’s Fault
If your Wyze app is not updated to the newest possible version, it could be inhibiting your Gate Lock from successfully connecting with the internet.
Luckily, all you need to do is open the app settings and check to see if there is an available update, if there is, go ahead and update! It might just fix your red blinking light.
The Gateway Is Too Far From the Lock
The Gateway, or the hub for your lock which connects it to your WiFi, needs to be paired to the lock itself via Bluetooth.
There is a chance that you have simply placed the Gateway too far away from the lock and by just moving it to a closer outlet, you will fix your offline problem!
The Gateway Is Too Far From the Router
Once again, that red blinking light indicates that the Gate Lock is offline may be a result of a misplaced Gateway.
If the Gateway is too far from the home router, it’s probably having trouble connecting or staying connected to the internet.
Of course, you will want to make sure if you are moving your Gateway around that it stays close to both the router and the lock itself.
How to Fix a Gate Lock that is Offline
If the solutions we have mentioned so far have not fixed your connection problem and you are still seeing a flashing red light, don’t stress!
There are a few other steps you can take to reconnect your Wyze lock and get back to using this handy security tool with your smartphone, Google Home, or any other smart home device!
- Check the WiFi itself. Stand next to the lock and try to connect your mobile phone to the network, if it doesn’t work, there may be a problem with your internet service provider, not with the Wyze Gate Lock.
- Before you get on the phone with your ISP, try resetting the router by unplugging it for a few minutes, then plugging it back in.
- Unplug your Gateway hub for a few minutes to reboot it.
- Re-setup your Gate Lock. If worse comes to worst, you may need to delete the machine from the app and then add it again, following the setup prompts on your phone.
That should do it, your Wyze Gate Lock should now be online, fully functioning, and not blinking a little red light anymore!
If you notice that your Wyze Gate Lock has a little red blinking light, you now know that it is trying to tell you that the lock is offline.
In order for your Wyze lock to work properly and be able to connect to your phone so you can control it with the click of your thumb, it needs to be able to connect to the wireless network in your home, so that little red light is not a good sign.
