Your Ring device was designed to provide you the peace of mind that you need to live confidently. The camera and alarm system allow you to get a full view of the surrounding area, and alert you to potential risks. Through the Ring app, you can control the functionality of your device and alarm, turning it on and off with ease.

In this article, we’ll be covering common problems that could cause your alarm not to sound – for both Ring Spotlight Camera devices, or the separate Ring Dome Siren Camera accompaniment.

Troubleshooting Your Spotlight Camera Siren

Ring Spotlight Cameras come equipped with a 110dB siren that allows you to protect your home and stay aware of any potential risks. In order to ensure your Spotlight Camera is permitted to function correctly, you will follow the steps to connect your device within the app.

If you’re experiencing this type of connection disruption, please be sure to follow the steps below to ensure that your device is properly connected:

  • Enter the Ring application. Navigate to the 3 lines at the upper left area of the screen
  • Select Set Up a Device
  • Select Security Cams
  • Scan the QR code on the back of your device when prompted using your smartphone’s camera
  • Ensure that the QR code was captured correctly – you will see a green square or line, and be prompted to continue once it is adequately captured.

The app is meant to help your devices connect automatically, and should have no problem creating the connection so long as your WiFi connection is stable and compatible with your device.

There are some user reports of a Ring Spotlight Camera showing as active, connected, and functional in the device that can be found in the official Ring community forum – which is not generally normal.

Troubleshooting Your Siren: Ring Dome Siren

The first step to troubleshooting your Ring Dome Siren is to ensure that it was set up correctly when you initially install the device. You can follow the guide below to connect your Ring Dome Siren in the Ring app.

  • Enter the Ring application. Navigate to the 3 lines at the upper left area of the screen
  • Select Set Up a Device
  • Select Security Devices
  • Select Sirens
  • Select Dome Siren
  • Select Ready

New Sirens

  • Unlock the back cover of the Dome siren. You can easily twist the back cover to release the casing. You can then press Next in the app as you are prompted.
  • Remove the tab on the batteries inside labeled “Remove Before Use.” Note that there are multiple plastic tabs – you must only remove the appropriately labeled tabs – as noted above.
  • Your device should automatically pair with the app and recognize the connection

Old Sirens

If the Siren is showing repeated lack of connection, attempt to reconnect using the eject and reinsert method for the batteries – as there will be no more tabs to pull to prompt the pairing between your Dome Siren and the app.

  • Eject and re-insert the batteries
  • Wait for the app as prompted and wait for the connection to pair

Once the connection is established, you can then continue to set up your device as you normally would, linking it to your desired rooms and naming your device. Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the process.

More Ways To Troubleshoot

  • Establish your location in-app, as prompted.
  • Give your device a name, as prompted.
  • Plugin your device, ideally near a location with strong WiFi connectivity to enhance the experience and ensure that there are no connection interruptions as you continue the linking process.
  • Press and release the white button on the top of your Ring Spotlight device, until the light blinks white. This shows you that the device is in “Set Up Mode”
  • Connect to your Ring device via the Settings option in-app, and follow the prompts. You will need to access your local WiFi password to continue linking the device.

If you disconnect your Ring Spotlight camera and re-connect it via the steps above, you likely will be able to restore the siren function if there was some sort of in-app interruption. If the problem persists, Ring staff experts recommend deleting the app and reinstalling it with all permissions accepted. You are also instructed to unplug and plug in the device to try to trigger functionality in the face of an interruption.
