Doorbell cameras are the newest item in home security that people are choosing to protect their homes. Both Wyze and Ring have exceptional capabilities, but how do they stack up against one another? Let’s take a look and see!

Wyze Video Doorbells offer an almost unbelievable price, great video quality, quick response times, simple installation, weatherproof housing, a smooth design, and a lot of free cloud storage, making them a better choice over their Ring counterparts.

Both brands have great perks to their doorbell cameras, but side by side, there are some obvious differences that might sway your decision.

Ring Doorbell Camera Overview

Ring offers great photo and video quality, adequate response times, and simple installation; however, Ring requires a subscription to use their cloud services, and their design is bulkier. Additionally, the Ring Chime or Chime Pro are required to use with a wired doorbell, but you must purchase them separately.

The New Wyze Video Doorbell Camera

In Fall 2020, Wyze came out with their Video Doorbell Camera, and it has stunned buyers everywhere. For $45, you get a small, effective video doorbell. The Wyze Video Doorbell has great quality and, unlike the Ring camera series, free 12 second clips of video for 14 days (they begin to write over on day 15), with no subscription.

Wyze offers 1080p resolution with the option of recording in HD, SD, or 480p. Some customers are curious about the vertical view being more than the horizontal view, but developers have said that this is so homeowners can see anyone at their door, from head to toe.

The Wyze camera wires straight into your existing doorbell wiring and comes with a chime (also at no additional cost) for inside the home.

Wyze Cam Plus Subscription

Wyze also offers a subscription plan to increase video storage length to cover the entire movement detected. For $1.99 a month, you get:

  • Unlimited video length
  • No cooldown periods between clips
  • Sound triggered alerts
  • Person, package, and vehicle detection
  • Fast-forward capabilities
  • Face recognition (coming soon)
  • Pet detection (coming soon)

Wyze Chime

The Wyze chime is equipped with 19 different sounds ranging from normal chime sounds, door knocking, and animal sounds. The chime works anywhere that you have Wi-Fi, so you just plug it in, and it’s ready to use.

The Wyze Doorbell does not ring the chime from your old doorbell; instead, it rings the included chime inside the house.

Is the Wyze Video Doorbell Better than Ring Doorbells?

Many customers are quite pleased with the overall price and performance of the Wyze doorbell, even though some have said that there are better (more costly) options out there. For some, the cost alone was a huge selling point, and the camera performed way above expectations.

While some less favorable comments (spotty performance, flimsy design) have been mentioned, customers have also noted that they were using the beta version. With that in mind, just know improvements and upgrades are coming!

Final Thoughts

Choosing a security camera to protect your home is often a tedious task and can be very time-consuming. Hopefully, the above information has helped you visualize the differences and similarities between the Ring and Wyze video doorbell cameras. Overall, the Wyze doorbell seems to have impressed many consumers for its low price, making it quite the adversary for Ring doorbells.
