The mega giant Disney company’s streaming service, Disney+ has become a favorite in many households, from the young to the old.

Here are 8 things to try if Disney Plus isn’t working on a Mac:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Downgrade the quality
  3. Restart your device
  4. Use the App
  5. Disable Ad and Pop-up blockers
  6. Turn off the VPN
  7. Clear your browser cache
  8. Report to Disney

As all streaming services do though, there can be times when it will not work properly on a particular device. Read on for what you can do when Disney+ does not work on your Mac device.

Check Your Internet Connection

The first obvious problem when having trouble accessing a streaming service is the Internet connection.

It is necessary to check your Internet connection to see if your speed is slow or you’re out of range.

Try the following:

  • Check the WiFi or cellular connection to your Mac. Make sure the connection strength is good.
  • Re-start your connection. Turn your WiFi (or cell data) connection off, wait a couple seconds, and then turn it back on. Often, a re-start in this manner can go a long way in fixing the problem.
  • Check your speed using any number of free Internet speed tools. This speed test tends to be one of the most popular.

The Internet connection speed can also be more of an issue when you are streaming Disney+ content that is UHD.

This quality requires a fast Internet connection (typically at least 25 Mbps).

Downgrade the Quality

Depending on the speed of Internet you pay for, the quality might just be too good on Disney+.

Most Internet plans handle 1080p content very well, but if you have a slower connection or are trying to watch something in 4K, you may have problems.

Restart Your Device

Believe it or not, restarting your device does several things at once.

It can clear up any intermittent OS or browser issues you may have, and it can also clear up any hiccups that may be from your Internet.

Restarting the device will often re-start a connection to the WiFi.

Getting a new IP address could be just the thing to fix that pesky glitch with Disney+.

Use the App

If your Mac laptop is not working, consider switching to a more mobile device.

If you switch to a mobile device such as an iPhone or iPad, then be sure to use the Disney+ app.

While you can log into Disney+ through an Internet browser on a phone or tablet, the app is designed intentionally for those types of devices.

To download the Disney+ app, just search for it in the Apple App Store, download it, enter your account credentials, and enjoy streaming loads of content.

Disable Ad and Pop-up Blockers

One of the things that Mac’s default browser, Safari is known for is its security.

To make sure Safari does not block pop-ups from Disney+ on Mac OS, you need to do the following while on the Disney+ website:

  • In Safari, go to the Safari drop down menu
  • Go to Preferences
  • Scroll down to Pop-up Windows and click
  • Find the Disney Plus item in the Pop-up list and make sure the “When Visiting Other Websites” selection is set to “Allow”

While this is a good thing to have, too much security can often interfere with your Disney+ viewing if watching outside of the app.

Turn Off the VPN

If your VPN is on, you will typically see a black screen when trying to get at your content.

Disney+ does not support VPN usage, so turn it off if you have any active VPN on your Mac.

Just turn off the VPN and re-login or re-load the Disney+ page, and you should be good to go.

Clear Your Browser Cache

This fix is often looked over but could be the difference between a working and not-working Disney+.

The specific browser’s cache files can sometimes get corrupted, and it leaves your device in an odd (and unpleasant) state of not working.

On Safari, this is a particularly easy process. Just go to the Safari drop-down menu and click “Clear History.”

Choose a date range and click the button “Clear History.” That’s it: as simple as that.

Report to Disney

If you have tried all these fixes and you still cannot get Disney+ to work, then you should report the issue to Disney Plus’ Help Center.

From the Help Center, you should be able to get in contact with their support team.

When doing so, the more details you give them, the easier it will be to diagnose.

Tell them the type of issue you have and everything you have tried to fix.

Conclusion

Streaming service issues are usually lumped into network, device, or service categories.

Such is the case with Disney+ operating on a Mac.

The variety of their content, from the nostalgia of their first few films to their most up-to-date, has sent many families to subscribe to this streaming service.

By trying each of these recommendations, you should be able to get your issue resolved and back to watching your favorite content on Disney+.
