Why is My Verizon Router Blinking Blue & the Fix!

Verizon is a great option for fast and affordable internet. However, like any other router, Verizon routers can have complications. One of the most common complications Verizon routers experience is a blinking blue light.

A Verizon router with a blinking blue light is trying to connect to the internet. However, it could also signify that the device is overheating or needs to be updated. 

Why is Verizon Router Blinking a Blue Light?

Verizon routers will often blink blue when they are trying to pair to the internet. That is normal and expected. 

However, if your Verizon router is blinking blue for more than two minutes without pairing to the internet, it could signify one of the following things:

• Your router is overheated 
• Your router is establishing a connection 
• Your router needs a firmware update

It is normal for the Verizon router to blink a blue light when it is pairing or establishing a connection to the internet. 

However, if your Verizon router blinks for more than two minutes and has not established a connection, it may need maintenance or troubleshooting.

How Can I Fix a Blinking Blue Light on a Verizon Router?

If your Verizon router has been blinking blue for more than two minutes and still has not established a secure connection, there are some things you can do to fix it.

If your Verizon router is blinking blue for more than two minutes and still has not paired, first try unplugging the router and modem for about 60 seconds, then plugging it back in. This will reset the ISP and likely fix the problem.

If a power cycle doesn’t work, you can also try the following troubleshooting methods:

• Restart the router
• Update the firmware 
• Check for overheating

Restart the Router

If your Verizon router is overheated or having firmware issues, restarting it may remedy that. 

To restart your Verizon router, follow the steps below:

• Switch off the router and unplug it from the outlet.
• Disconnect the battery backup by removing the plug connector with the red and black cables and sliding it out of place.
• Wait 30-40 seconds.
• Plug the router back in. 
• Turn the router on and reconnect the backup battery.
• Wait for the router to boot up.

There should now be a steady white light in place of a blue light.

Update the Firmware 

If you restart your Verizon router and the blue light is still blinking for more than two minutes, you may need to update your Verizon router’s firmware. 

Follow the steps below to update your router’s firmware:

• Open the Verizon Admin GUI by entering your IP address into your web browser.
• Sign in using your WiFi password. 
• From the router home screen, select “System Settings.”
• Select “General Information.”
• Press “Check for Software Update.”

If your Verizon router is due for a firmware update, download and install it. This will improve your router’s performance and hopefully fix the blinking blue light.

Check for Overheating

If your Verizon router is blinking blue for more than two minutes, it may be because it is overheating. This can cause a variety of technical issues. 

To fix an overheated Verizon router, completely unplug it and wait 5 minutes before plugging it back in. 

Here are some things you can do to prevent your Verizon router from overheating in the future:

• Clean any dust or dirt on or around your router.
• Do not place anything on top of your router.
• Make sure your router has adequate ventilation.
• Do not put your router in closed spaces, such as cabinets or closets.
• Keep your router away from heat sources such as stoves, ovens, and radiators. 

Keeping your Verizon router from overheating should be a regular part of your device’s maintenance. 

What Do I Do When My Verizon Router Won’t Pair?

Sometimes, all of the issues listed above can be ruled out.

If your Verizon router has paired correctly, it doesn’t need an update, and it’s not overheated, check that you have entered your WiFi password correctly. 

If you have tried all the options above and your Verizon router is still blinking blue for an extended period, it may be damaged or defective. 

In this case, you should contact Verizon customer support. If they can’t find the problem, consider replacing your router.
