You are not alone if you have heard about Xfinity and would like to enroll in their services. Over 31 million households in the US have a residential plan through the cable service provider. Customers can sign up by entering their address on the Xfinity website to view services, but what if it doesn’t work? Why can’t Xfinity recognize your address?
Xfinity may not be able to recognize the address if it does not match the US Postal Service database, if it is a new property or address, if it is coded as a commercial address rather than a residential address, they do not provide service to that area, or the user made a mistake.
Now that you know why Xfinity does not recognize the address online, it is important to understand why this is occurring and how you can remedy the problem. Below we have outlined each problem and a sufficient remedy to use to help troubleshoot the issue.
Xfinity has an intuitive website allowing users to enter their residential address to view the plans and services they offer at that specific location. This makes it easy for users to shop and select packages specific to their service area. Sometimes this process goes awry. There are five different reasons why the address may not be showing:
- The address does not match the US Postal Service Database
- The property is codded as commercial instead of residential
- It is a brand new property
- It is out of the service area
- The user made a typo
Each issue can cause frustration to the consumer interested in browsing the services offered by Xfinity. Although encountering each issue is not ideal, they can mostly be fixed. We have each scenario outlined to help you work through the problem.
US Postal Service Database Issues
Xfinity pairs with the US Postal Service to identify the proper address of each property within its service area. The US Postal Service has a comprehensive list of addresses due to its responsibility as the postal carrier for the US. After all, the mail can’t get there if the post office doesn’t know where to deliver it.
If the address you entered does not match the address that Xfinity pulls from its database, it may give you an error and say the address is invalid. Sometimes Xfinity will suggest an alternate version to select. Other times it will not. If it doesn’t, simply go to the US Postal Service website and do an address search. It will give you the proper address solution through a search.
Also, ensure you aren’t using your Xfinity account at multiple addresses.
Commercial or Residential
If you have just moved into an apartment on top of a commercial property, Xfinity may have labeled the entire property as commercial. Sometimes this mix-up happens, especially when a building is mixed-use. Although they are relatively on top of things like this, you may find yourself with a link requesting that you redirect to their commercial or business page.
It is important not just to hand in the towel and enroll in a business plan to save yourself money. They are more expensive than the residential options. Instead, pick up the phone and call Xfinity. Explain what is happening to them. They will walk you through the steps needed to troubleshoot and fix the problem so you can get a residential plan instead.
New Building, New Service
If you have moved into a new home, it may not even be listed in the Xfinity or the Us Postal Service Database. When the owner of new residential address types in their address online with a keyboard, it may appear invalid. This is especially common if it is in the middle of construction.
Contact your contractor to discuss the best way to alert the utility. They will need to come in and run cables through the new home for it to connect appropriately. When doing so, they will add your address to their database to include it in the future. This is the best way to fix the problem as it is the most direct.
No Service Area
Although Xfinity is available in many places around the US, there are still areas it hasn’t made it to. Of the 50 states in the US, it is only available in 40. We have created a list of the states that Xfinity is not available in to help you determine whether this is the issue you are experiencing:
- North Dakota
- South Dakota
If you live in one of the states listed above, then Xfinity has not yet made it to your areas. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about this scenario. You can look into other top-rate service providers available in your area, such as Spectrum.
User error is another common scenario that may be why a customer cannot locate their address in the Xfinity system. You may encounter an issue if you omit an apartment number or street suffix. Additionally, if you use a different spelling of a street, it may conflict with Xfinity’s system. Double-check your entry, fix it if necessary, and then reload the page.
Nowhere to be Found
If you have tried all of these troubleshooting tips and it isn’t working out, it may be best to call the customer service line that Xfinity offers. A representative can help you look into your service options at the address you are calling for. Not only does this streamline the process, but it may also even get you a better deal.
