The Ring Stick Up Camera is a great addition to your home’s security system as it’s an easy-to-use camera and it can see around your house and property. One of the best parts about the camera is that you can set up your own preference for motion zones and motion ranges. This allows you to customize what you want the camera to see. It also allows you to choose when you want the camera to alert you.

The Stick-Up Cam can detect motion as far away as 30 feet. The motion range can be changed in the Ring App though if you do not want it to detect motion that far away. Simply use the motion range slider to set the range you want the Stick-Up Camera to cover.

You might be wondering exactly how to change the motion range in the Ring App. Don’t worry, we will go over the exact steps in this article. We will also discuss motion zones and how to choose the best zones and range for your property.

What are Ring Camera Motion Zones and Motion Ranges?

With the Ring Stick-Up Cam, you have the option to choose your own motion zones and motion ranges. Motion zones are the areas that the camera will detect motion and then alert you of the movement. This is a handy feature because you can exclude busy zones such as sidewalks or other parts of your property where people walk frequently.

When choosing motion zones consider the following tips:

  • Try to exclude areas of regular movement such as sidewalks as you don’t want to get annoyed with constant alerts of people and dogs walking by.
  • Remove areas where pets play so you don’t get alerts every time your dog goes outside.
  • Make sure your front door and garage door are included so you can see guests and package deliveries.
  • Choose a zone in the backyard as well so you can see if people are on your property.
  • Use the Near Zone feature which allows you to cover large horizontal areas and avoid fewer motion alerts caused by cars and people.

If you choose your motion zones using the tips above, you will be able to see all the important parts of your property while avoiding high traffic areas that can cause you to get way too many alerts on your phone.

Choosing Motion Ranges

Motion ranges are important because you want to make sure your Ring Camera is only detecting the important movements around your home. You can use the motion range coupled with the motion zone settings to ensure you are only getting accurate notifications to your Ring app.

With motion ranges you can:

  • Choose a range between 5 to 30 feet.
  • Choose a range for each specific zone to make it fully customized.
  • Toggle zones and ranges on and off depending on the time of day.

Now that you know what the motion zones and motion ranges can do, it’s important to learn to modify them so you can make sure you have the correct settings for your home.
