The Apple Watch is an intuitive device that houses many icons and symbols. So what does purple on the Apple Watch mean?

A purple moon-shaped status icon or banner on the Apple Watch signifies the watch is in do not disturb or focus mode. This mode blocks certain calls, texts, and notifications.

The iPhone is chock full of amazing capabilities. Keep reading to learn more about the do not disturb function and how it can benefit you and your active lifestyle.

What Do Not Disturb Does

Do Not Disturb (DND) is a tool Apple created to allow users to turn off noise and vibration alerts when they get a call, text, notification, or alert on their phone.

This setting can be toggled on and off in the settings menu or via the quick menu on an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.

The key thing people enjoy about Do Not Disturb is that it is completely customizable.

This means users can decide what sounds or notifications make it through in DND mode.

If you see another color, like green, red, or even a green snake on your Apple Watch, we’ve got info on each!

How to Set Up Do Not Disturb: Apple Watch

If you want to use DND on your Apple Watch face, you can set it up by following these quick steps:

  1. Open the Apple Watch App from your phone.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap Do Not Disturb.
  4. Turn on Mirror iPhone on.

Troubleshooting Do Not Disturb

Occasionally, Do Not Disturb seems to have a mind of its own. Below we cover common issues you may face when using DND and how to solve them.

Missing Calls

If you put on Do Not Disturb and are missing calls from people you thought you allowed through in this setting, it can pose a problem.

To fix this issue, go back into the settings and reset them. Ensure to save them and then turn your phone on and off again. The DND settings should function appropriately again.

Missing Texts

If you are missing text message notifications from people you want to hear from when Do Not Disturb is on, there may be an issue with your settings.

Go back to your DND settings and ensure to update the customize notifications field. Enter people whom you want to contact you and save the settings.

Not Turning Off

If you have tried to turn off DND, but it is stubbornly staying on, it may be time for a reset.

Turn off your iPhone or Apple Watch and leave it off for 1 minute. Then, turn the device back on.

Once it is on, try to disable Do Not Disturb again. It should turn off and normally work again.

Do Not Disturb Alternative: Sleep Mode

If you do not like Do Not Disturb Mode but still want restful sleep while in bed, then Sleep Mode may be the better iPhone alternative. To activate this function:

  1. Open the Health app.
  2. Tap browse.
  3. Tap sleep.
  4. Select Get Started.
  5. Select Next.

The app will then ask you to enter your goal for sleep and ask if you want to set up an alarm to wake up to. It will also suggest a good time to wake up and when to go to sleep.

Peace of Mind

Do not disturb is the perfect tool when you want to sleep undisturbed or go into a meeting or movie. Adjust it to meet your needs and get the most out of your iPhone.
