If you have seen both the Nest Audio and Google Home promoted by Google as the must-have smart home speaker system, you may be wondering to yourself how they are different, and more importantly, which one you should invest in!

The Nest Audio is essentially just the new and improved version of the Google Home. Both devices are made by Google, they each provide many of the same services such as voice control, Bluetooth and WiFi connection, Google Assistant, and of course, audio entertainment.

In this article, we are going to discuss both devices in-depth, including what they have to offer, and how they differ so you can figure out which one is best for you.

What Do the Nest Audio and Google Home Both Offer?

If you want to learn a little more about why the Nest Audio is considered the better option by many, as well as everything each of these devices has to offer, you are in the right place!

Before we dig into the specific differences and comparisons of both the Nest Audio and the Google Home, it’s important to note that these two smart home speakers, as well as most others, offer several of the exact same features.

  • They work as a smart home hub and connect easily to your various other smart appliances such as thermostats, televisions, lighting systems, security cameras, and more.
  • They can connect via Bluetooth to any device and to your home wireless network.
  • Both devices need to be constantly attached to a power outlet as they do not have internal batteries.
  • They are both controllable via voice commands through the built-in Google Assistant.

It may seem as though the two are essentially the same device, and that’s not too far off. However, because the Nest Audio is a newer model, it does offer a few exciting new features that the Google Home is lacking.

What Does Nest Audio Have that Google Home Doesn’t?

The Google Home was the original smart home speaker from Google, and at the time of its release in 2016, it was an incredibly impressive device.

As we know, technology is constantly evolving, and companies are doing their best to keep up and provide new and improved devices on almost a yearly basis. However, it took until 2020 for Google to create and produce the Nest Audio which has surpassed the Google Home in a number of ways.

The Google Home was a consumer favorite for years, but now, the Nest Audio has quickly become one of the most popular choices for a smart home speaker, almost making the Google Home obsolete. So why is it so much more impressive?

Well, for one thing, the Nest Audio provides a 75% better sound than the Google Home and a 50% better base, so the sound is substantially better.

The Nest Audio also has three far-field microphones, whereas the Google Home only has two. This means that the Nest Audio has the ability to hear your voice commands from farther away and even if you’re not speaking extremely clearly, it will be able to deduce what you want to hear with ease.

Another exciting factor for some users is that the Nest Audio offers a sleeker design with several color options, and there is even good news for the environmentally conscious as it is made with partially recycled materials.

Which Device Should You Get?

Now that you know a little more about each device, you may want to know which one is the best option?

The truth is that these days, the Google Home is actually a bit hard to come by. Because the Nest Audio has all the same basic features that the Google Home provides, and so many extra specs as well, Google has stopped selling Google Homes.

You can still find them used or refurbished on eBay, but if you are looking to purchase directly from Google or even just a new device, you really won’t have a choice, it has to be the Nest Audio.

Luckily, the Nest Audio isn’t that much more expensive than a used Google Home, as it only costs around $100.

While of course, it is your decision to make, we recommend going for the Nest Audio, it really is worth the upgrade.

Final Thoughts

To compare the Nest Audio and Google Home, there are a couple of important factors to consider. One is that they are essentially the same devices but the Nest Audio is simply an updated version, the other is that while the Google Home can still be found, it’s almost obsolete.

The takeaway here is that the Nest Audio is quite clearly the better option as it has a better sound system, better microphones for voice controls, and so much more!
