The Wyze Cam Pan is an excellent solution for individuals looking to securely monitor their homes with 360° coverage. With a wide range of views and fast rotation, I wanted to learn about potential mounting options.

Mounting the Wyze Cam Pan? If you’re looking to mount your Wyze Cam Pan, there are plenty of options. Whether you’re using Wyze’s Mounting Kit or your own DIY customization, the camera can be mounted on most surfaces.

Though the aim of the Wyze Cam Pan installation is geared towards a user-friendly, customizable experience, the process can still be intimidating to some. In this article, you’ll find helpful tips and guides for mounting your camera on a variety of surfaces.

Wyze Cam Pan; Features and Specifications

The Wyze Cam Pan is a smart home security camera offering 360° coverage of your living space. Additionally, the camera allows users to record motion and sound without needing an additional paid subscription plan. Here’s a quick look at some of the features of the Wyze Cam Pan:

  • 1080p HD Live Streaming (120° Wide Angle Lens)
  • 360° Coverage in 3 Minutes
  • IR Night Vision
  • Alexa and Google Assistant Smart Home Integration
  • “Patrol Mode” (Can scan and patrol up to 4 customizable waypoint locations in your house)
  • Motion/Sound Alerts
  • Automatically Detects and Tracks Motion

An additional feature that makes the Wyze Cam Pan versatile is the variety of mounting solutions. Before we examine the different mounting scenarios you may encounter, let’s take a quick look at how to mount the camera in your house.

How to Mount the Wyze Cam Pan

The Wyze Cam Pan uses a ¼”-20 threaded screw hole (the size of a standard camera tripod mount). This provides the opportunity for a variety of different mounting options, some more permanent than others.

According to the Wyze Cam Pan Installation Manual:

Depending on the type of mount, your Wyze Cam Pan can be safely mounted anywhere: ceilings, walls, desktops, and shelves!

What’s Required

Wyze Cam Pan

The Wyze Cam Pan is rated for indoor use only (not weather resistant), but we’ll examine some potential workarounds for this further in the article. Additionally, the camera doesn’t have a separate battery, so the device will need to be plugged in wherever you decide to mount it.

It is worth noting, however, that your Wyze Cam Pan will not come with mounting hardware out of the box. Fortunately, Wyze offers a separate Mounting Kit to provide customizable solutions.

The Wyze Cam Pan Mounting Kit

Wyze sells an optional Mounting Kit, providing users with a variety of installation options for the camera (Amazon also has a similar kit for the Wyze Cam Pan).

What’s Included?

The Mounting Kit comes with everything you need to get your Wyze Cam Pan mounted on a range of surfaces:

  • Bracket x1
  • Micro USB Cable 15’ x1
  • Screw x1
  • Wall Anchor x1
  • Cable Guides x6
  • Installation Guide x1

The Magnetic Base

The magnetic base included with the mounting kit is an extra-strong, customizable solution for mounting as well. This means there’s no permanent installation to your bracket, giving you the option to move the device elsewhere later on. Additionally, you can use any magnetic base that has a ¼”-20 screw attachment.

Installing the Mounting Kit

The Mounting Kit bracket uses a detachable magnetic base that the camera attaches to directly. You just need to screw on your Wyze Cam Pan to the magnetic base, and you can easily detach it from the bracket for added DIY customization.

Wyze also includes cable clips and an extra-long charging cord, so your setup can be clean and manageable, leaving a smaller visual footprint in your living space. This is an excellent addition, considering many mountable devices don’t include extra cord organizers.

Options for Mounting the Wyze Cam Pan

Mounting Upside Down

Let’s say you want to mount your Wyze Cam Pan on your ceiling. You may be wondering, “Can I mount the camera upside down?” According to Wyze’s Support Page, the device can easily be mounted upside down for added customizability. Since the base bracket securely attaches via a ¼”-20 screw, you don’t have to worry about it falling off either.

Once you mount it upside down, you’ll have to flip the image from the associated app; otherwise, you’ll be streaming video upside down.

According to Wyze Support:

To flip the display of your live stream, enter the Advanced Settings for your camera and toggle Rotate Image 180° on/off.

Regardless of how you choose to mount your camera, there are plenty of creative and DIY friendly options available.

Mounting with a Tripod

As we now know, the Wyze Cam Pan uses a standard tripod thread to attach to its associated components. Since the Cam Pan doesn’t come with a mounting kit right out of the box, you may want to invest in a camera tripod for more versatile mounting options.

Amazon offers many compatible portable tripods as well for the Wyze Cam Pan. With these easy to use, portable tripods, you can add security virtually anywhere in your house. Here’s a quick look at some of the popular models available:

For reference, the Wyze Cam Pan only weighs 8.78 oz, so most standard tripod models would be compatible. If you’re looking for a different brand or type of tripod, any standard model with a ¼”-20 attachment screw will work fine.

Mounting on Brick

Many modern homes have brick interior walls, making potential mounting a little more involved. There are still a few options with the mounting kit, however:

Magnetic Mounting Tape

Since the mounting kit uses a magnetic base to attach to the camera, the easiest solution for mounting on brick would be to purchase some magnetic tape. Since the Wyze Cam Pan is lightweight, many users report magnetic tape is a sufficient mounting option.

Masonry Screws

Additionally, if you’re looking for a more permanent solution, you can use masonry screws, rather than the included screw for mounting. Although attaching your mount permanently may require a more experienced user.

Can I use the Wyze Cam Pan Outdoors?

Now that we’ve seen what the mounting process looks like, can the Wyze Cam Pan be used outdoors? Though the camera is not rated for outdoor use, there are some easy solutions available.

  • Amazon sells a third party outdoor mount, meant to weatherproof your existing Pan Cam (It also comes with an adjustable bracket).
  • Alternatively, if you’re looking for a workaround to buying a separate mount, many users have indicated the camera can be safely installed outdoors under your roof on the soffit.

Mounting Tips and Takeaways

The availability of several accessible and customizable mounting solutions makes the Wyze Cam Pan a strong candidate for your smart home security needs. Additionally, the 360° coverage and night vision help keep you protected at all times.

In just a few steps, you can have your Wyze Cam Pan mounted and monitoring your house in no time. If you’re looking to mount your device with a more permanent solution, however, some additional hardware and components may be required.
