The Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch and the Wemo Smart Dimmer Switch have a lot of the same features including wifi capabilities, voice control, and an app that allows you to control them from anywhere. They are, after all, smart devices. So how can you tell which is the better smart dimmer?

The Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch is the better smart dimmer switch. However, depending on what you are looking for in a smart dimmer switch, you may prefer the WeMo Smart Dimmer Switch over the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch.

While the ratings and overall functionality of both smart dimmers are fairly similar, there are some small differences to consider when choosing between the two smart dimmers. Keep reading to find out what these differences are to help you decide which smart dimmer is a better choice for you.

Design

One major difference between the two smart switches is the design of the switch. Depending on your style and preferences, the design of the smart dimmer switch may determine which one is the better one for you.

WeMo

If you have a smart home or are looking to make your house into a smart home, chances are, you prefer a more modern, smart look to your home. The WeMo Smart Dimmer Switch has fewer buttons and is less bulky than the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch.

To control your WeMo Smart Dimmer Switch from the device itself, you slide your finger up and down the switch. To make up for the sleek design but maintain the functionality of the unit, the WeMo Smart Dimmer Switch has a long list of indicator lights.

ProsCons

Depending on your needs, the Kasa option could definitely be what you want! However, if you know you have a hard time remembering what indicator lights mean, it might be best to choose another.

Kasa

There is a traditional switch for turning your lights on and off and two buttons for brightness control–one button to turn the brightness down and the other to turn the brightness up. If you ever need to reboot your Kasa Smart Dimmer, you can press the restart or the reset button directly on the unit.

ProsCons
Easy to use control buttons on unitHas the appearance of a regular light switch

These features could totally make or break your Kasa experience, so choose wisely!

Features

The Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch and the WeMo Smart Dimmer Switch have a lot of the same features. However, there are some minor differences that can help you determine which is the better switch for you.

The Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch Has More Options for Controlling Your Lights

Both switches can be controlled by an app or a voice controlled smart device such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. However, the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch has a newer model that also has motion detection. For midnight bathroom breaks, you can set your Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch to turn on when someone walks through the hallway and into the bathroom and then set it to turn off a set number of minutes later.

The Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch Has Daylight Detection

You won’t have a problem setting schedules and timers on both smart dimmer switches; however, only the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch has automatic daylight detection. This will prevent your lights from turning on once daylight is detected unless you turn them on yourself.

The WeMo Smart Dimmer Switch Works With Apple HomeKit

Being able to control your smart dimmer switch with your voice is likely one of the most exciting features of buying a smart dimmer switch. For this reason, you’ll want to make sure your smart dimmer switch is compatible with the smart device that you own. Both the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch and the WeMo Smart Dimmer switch work with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa devices.

However, if your household favors Apple devices, the WeMo Smart Dimmer Switch is a better choice because it works with Apple Homekit. If your household has mostly android devices, you’ll want to go with the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch because it is compatible with Samsung SmartThings.

Price

Price won’t end up being much of a factor if you’re choosing between the WeMo WDS060 Smart Dimmer Switch and the Kasa Smart Motion Sensor Switch. The WeMo Smart Dimmer Switch costs only a few dollars more on Amazon than the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch.

Common Issues

Wifi and Alexa connectivity was a common issue with the WeMo Smart Dimmer Switch, according to Amazon customers. While they noted that initial set up was easy, there were several comments about post set up issues. It was hard to find any common issues with the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch on Amazon, making the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch the better smart dimmer switch according to Amazon customers.

Conclusion

In terms of functionality, the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch and the WeMo Smart Dimmer Switch are pretty much the same. If you’d rather not take a chance on a device that others have warned has some reliability issues, the Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch is the better switch. However, if the design of the switch and Apple Homekit connectivity are your priorities, then the WeMo Smart Dimmer switch will be the better switch for you.
