No matter what the problem your iPhone is experiencing, putting it into recovery mode can most likely fix it! So let’s find out why your iPhone recovery mode isn’t working and, more importantly, how to fix it!

If your iPhone recovery mode isn’t working, you can solve the problem yourself by either updating the iTunes and iPhone’s software or force resetting the iPhone. If neither of these solutions work, you can try using a third-party reboot platform or contacting Apple support.

In this article, we are going to step through the instructions for all five options to try if your iPhone recovery mode isn’t working so you can get back to enjoying your device in just a few minutes!

5 Solutions to Try if iPhone Recovery Mode Isn’t Working

So, your iPhone recovery mode won’t work properly. Don’t worry! There are five very simple solutions you can try right now.

If the recovery mode isn’t working, you can and should update the iPhone and the iTunes app, as well as force reset the phone, work with a third-party reboot platform, and if all else fails, reach out to Apple support for assistance.

We even organized the tactics from easiest to most challenging in the hopes that your iPhone recovery mode will be working again as soon as possible with the smaller amount of effort!

  • Update iPhone Software
  • Update iTunes
  • Force Reset the Device
  • Use a Third-Party Reboot
  • Contact Apple Support

Now, let’s go through the directions for each option step-by-step.

Update iPhone Software

Although iPhones are constantly releasing updates, many of us click “remind me later” instead of running them as recommended.

But luckily, one of the easiest ways to solve the problem when an iPhone recovery mode isn’t working is to simply run an update on the phone.

To update your iPhones software, here’s what you need to do:

  • Navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Click General.
  • Select Software Update.
  • Turn on Automatic Updates.

That’s all there is to it! Your iPhone recovery mode might work already, but if not, there are four more options to try.

Update iTunes

The next solution to try is to simply update the iTunes app on both your iPhone and your computer.

When it comes to updating the app on your phone, all you need to do is head over to the apps menu, select iTunes, and click to run any available updates.

On your computer, the directions are slightly different for if you have a Mac computer or PC, but fortunately, they only require just a few more steps.

Update iTunes on Mac

To update the iTunes application on your Mac, here’s what you need to do:

  • Launch the App Store app.
  • Navigate to Updates.
  • Any available updates to the iTunes app will appear.
  • Click to run updates.

From here, you should try to use the iPhone recovery mode again, it might have done the trick!

Update iTunes on PC

If your iTunes in on a PC, here are the directions you need to follow:

  • Open the iTunes app.
  • Click on the Help menu.
  • Select Check for Updates.
  • Click Install.

Now, you just might be able to successfully use the recovery mode on your iPhone.

Force Reset the Device

If it’s still not working, you will need to force reset the device.

And you can do so by pressing on and releasing the volume up button, and then pressing and releasing the volume down button, and finally pressing on and holding down the side button.

When the Apple logo appears, then, you can release the side button. From here, the iPhone will automatically reset and you should be good to go.

Use a Third-Party Reboot

The fourth solution on our list is to use a third-party reboot platform such as Reiboot to get your iPhone recovery mode working again.

You will first need to download the program onto your computer, then plug in your iPhone with a USB cable. After it’s connected, open the program interface and select the option to Enter Recovery Mode.”

Finally, follow the prompts from the program to update and repair the phone so that the recovery mode will work perfectly again.

Contact Apple Support

Now, if none of these problem-solving tactics worked and your iPhone still won’t successfully run the recovery mode option, then it’s time to reach out for help.

You should contact Apple support over the phone at 800–275–2273 or on their online support request page

If they cannot help you virtually, you may have to send your iPhone in for a technician to look at.
