Sharing Full TikToks to Your Instagram Story

If you’re able to make one TikTok and share it on your Instagram Story, you can save time while maximizing your reach. This is great for engagement and building your following!

To post a TikTok video to your Instagram story, follow these steps:

  1. Open TikTok app.
  2. In your profile, select the video you want to share with your Instagram Story.
  3. Save this video to your device.
  4. In the Instagram app, choose the option to add to your Story.
  5. When the camera roll opens, choose the downloaded TikTok video.
  6. Tap the video and wait for it to upload.

This final step can take a few seconds, up to a minute, depending on where you are and whether you’re using Wi-Fi or cellular data.

Once the upload is finished, you can view the TikTok video on your Story. Up next, we’ll outline the details of each step in the process.

Open TikTok and Select Your Desired Video

To complete this guide, you’re going to need personal accounts for both TikTok and Instagram, so if you don’t have one established for either or both, then you’ll want to do that first.

The next step is to open TikTok, either through its mobile application or official website, and confirm that you are logged into your account.

For the sake of this guide, we’re assuming you’ve already created a TikTok video you intend to upload to Instagram.

To find it, open your profile by selecting the profile icon (which appears as a head and shoulders) located at the far right of the bottom menu bar.

From here, you should be able to see all of the videos you’ve uploaded. Locate the one you want to upload to Instagram from TikTok and tap on it to open it.

Save Your TikTok Video to Your Device

In order to upload a TikTok video in full onto Instagram without losing quality, you’ll need to save the video to your device and upload it from there.

After you’ve opened your desired TikTok video, select the share icon (which appears as a curved arrow) to open the share menu.

Inside, you’ll see a series of share options, from sharing the video with in-app friends to other social media apps, SMS, and more. The option you’ll want to select is the “Save Video” option.

When you save your TikTok video, it should appear in your device’s library or gallery. You’ll want to confirm that your video is saved properly here before moving ahead.

Using this method for uploading content on multiple apps is also beneficial because it allows you to save your video on your device as a backup, should you need it in the future (ex. account was hacked and you lost videos, the app banned a video unnecessarily, etc.).

Open Instagram and Upload Your Video

With your TikTok video saved on your device, you can now open Instagram and upload your TikTok video in full.

Instead of going straight to your profile, you’ll want to select the “add story” icon (which appears as a plus sign inside a box at the upper right-hand side of the screen.

Once this screen opens, select your saved TikTok video from your device’s library/gallery.

If you’re having trouble accessing your library or gallery, you might need to select the camera roll option (appears as a small white camera on the right-hand side of the screen).

Then select the square located at the bottom left-hand side of the screen that will lead you to your library’s content.

Allow the Video to Load, and Then Share It

Your TikTok video should only take a few seconds to upload onto your Instagram story. Make sure to leave the app open during this process.

If your TikTok video is too long, Instagram might split it into multiple posts, but this will not prevent you from uploading it in full.

Once the video has fully uploaded, make any editing changes you want before proceeding. You’ll click the “Next” button, which will prompt the “Share” menu to appear.

Instagram will select the “Your Story” option by default, but you can also decide to share with specific friends or other options here as well.

With the “Your Story” share option selected (and any others you prefer), the final step is to select the “Share” button at the bottom of the screen.

Afterward, you should be able to see that your TikTok video has been fully uploaded onto your Instagram account.

Final Thoughts

Posting content on more than one social media site can be beneficial for several reasons, and now, you know how to get your TikTok videos on Instagram without issue.

Although this guide only requires four steps, there is a way to potentially achieve the same results in one.

Remember when we told you to open the “Share” menu on your TikTok video so you could save it to your device’s library/gallery?

Well, instead of saving it, you could click the “Instagram” icon and share it directly to your Instagram account for a quick upload.

The app will ask you to log in if this is your first time, and while this process is much faster, it doesn’t always upload videos in full.

Therefore, we recommend trying this option first, and then, if you discover that your TikTok video didn’t upload properly, you can use the guide listed above for guaranteed results.
