Netflix is one of the main video services available today. Netflix popularized the form. Apple TV is one of the most popular Netflix devices, but how do you log out of Netflix on Apple TV?

Apple doesn’t have the option to sign out of Netflix on the first generation. The 2nd and 3rd generations have the option on the home screen. The 4th, 5th, and 6th generations have the option in the Netflix Menu.

While this is a bit inconvenient, especially for the owners of the first generation of Apple TV, signing out of Netflix on your Apple TV is an easy endeavor.

How to Log Out of Netflix on Apple TV

Depending on your generation of Apple TV, you might be able to click just a few buttons, or you may have to uninstall and reinstall the Netflix application.

You must delete and reinstall the app if you have a first-generation Apple TV. If you have 2nd through 6th generations, the option to sign out is in the Netflix menu.

It can seem daunting to those that see themselves as technologically illiterate. But troubleshooting your problems here is the first step to becoming your family’s tech guru.

If you’ve got Netflix on your TV instead of on the Apple TV, there are separate instructions for logging out.

Logging Out of Netflix Depends on your Apple TV Generation

A significant part of logging out of Netflix on your Apple TV depends on its generation.

Identifying Which Generation Apple TV you Own

Many factors can help you identify which generation of Apple TV you own. From the type of remote you have, the number of ports on the back of the Apple TV, or the year made.

The easiest way to identify your Apple TV is by looking at your remote. Most of the models have different remotes. Visit this Apple Support Site Article to help identify your Apple TV model.

The Apple TV models are listed from the newest at the top to the oldest at the bottom on this site. There are also visual diagrams of the port configuration on the back of the Apple TV.

The 5th generation Apple TV is listed as Apple TV 4K 1st generation as it was the first generation of 4K Apple TVs but the 5th generation of Apple TV overall.

Similarly, the 6th generation Apple TV is listed as the Apple TV 4K 2nd generation because it was the 2nd generation of 4K Apple TV but the 6th generation Apple TV overall.

Log Out of Netflix on 1st Generation Apple TV

Unfortunately, logging out of Netflix is the most annoying if you have the first-generation Apple TV, but it is still easy. You will just have to uninstall and reinstall the Netflix app.

Since Apple decided not to include a log-out feature with the first generation Apple TV’s Netflix app, this is the only way you can switch to a different account on the 1st generation Apple TV.

Uninstall Netflix on 1st Generation Apple TV

  1. Go to the Apps Menu
  2. Scroll to the Netflix app but don’t click on it
  3. On the remote, press and hold the down button while hovering over the Netflix app icon
  4. Once the Netflix app starts wiggling – Tap the Play/Pause button on the remote
  5. Tap Delete

The Netflix app will now uninstall. You can then go to the Apple TV App Store and redownload Netflix. Once finished, you will be prompted to put in your new account information.

Log Out of Netflix on 2nd and 3rd Generations Apple TVs

Signing out of Netflix on the 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TVs is quite a bit easier than uninstalling and reinstalling the Netflix App.

To Sign of a Netflix Account on your 2nd or 3rd Generation Apple TV
  1. Open the Netflix App
  2. From the Netflix Home screen – select Switch Profiles
  3. Select Sign Out

Netflix will deactivate that account on your Apple TV and allow you to log in with different account credentials.

If you don’t use profiles on your Netflix account, instead of Switch Profiles, you will just see the option to Sign Out.

Log Out of Netflix on 4th, 5th, and 6th Generations Apple TVs

Logging out of Netflix on the 4th, 5th, and 6th generation Apple TV is probably the easiest. As time passes, Apple gets a better and better user interface experience.

To Sign Out of a Netflix Account on your 4th, 5th, or 6th Generation Apple TV

  1. Open the Netflix App
  2. While in the Netflix App – Tap the Menu button on your Apple TV remote
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Sign Out

Netflix will deactivate that account on your Apple TV and allow you to log in with different account credentials.

Conclusion

While Apple TV initially didn’t make it easy to log out of your Netflix account, they listened to their customers and made the process much easier in later generations.
