You can find the MAC address of your Nintendo 3DS in 3 simple steps. This information is useful for registering gaming devices on open Wi-Fi networks. Detailed instructions on how to find the MAC address on a Nintendo DS are included below.

The MAC address can be accessed from the connections settings menu on the Nintendo DS. To get there, you’ll need to navigate to the internet settings from the home menu. There are 2 different ways to reach the MAC address from the internet settings menu.

If you are having trouble connecting your 3DS to a reliable network, then you are encouraged to make an affordable equipment upgrade. Suggestions are included in the sections below.

Start At The Home Menu

There is no shortcut for finding the MAC address. You must always start at the home menu, where you can access a wide range of useful functions without even having to quit your game. Direct your attention toward the System Settings icon and select it. The system settings icon is shown as a wrench.

After selecting the System Settings icon, you’ll be redirected to a screen showing several icons. Select the Internet Settings icon at the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

2 Ways To Get MAC Address

There are two ways to get the MAC address at this point, the simplest of which is to navigate to the Other Information menu. Alternatively, you may find the MAC address through the “Nintendo DS Connectivity” menu.

Other Information Menu

After selecting the internet settings icon, you will be redirected to the Connection Settings menu. There are 3 options on this menu, the third of which is Other Information. Select this option and then confirm the MAC address. The MAC address should be listed here.

If, for any reason, you are not able to find the MAC address using this method, you may find it using the steps below.

Select Nintendo DS Connectivity

Go to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Set-Up menu after inserting a game with online play. There are three options on this menu, the second of which is titled Nintendo DS Connectivity.  Select this option to reach the final screen.

  • A box will pop up directing you to “Configure your connection settings for Nintendo DS software.”
  • Select “OK.”
  • The screen will go black for several seconds before you are taken to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Setup screen.

From The Wi-Fi Connection Setup Screen

On the Wi-Fi Connection Setup screen, select the Options box (found on the right side of the screen. From there, you are directed to the Wi-Fi options menu.

  • Select System Information
  • Here you will see both the MAC Address and the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection ID

Why Won’t My Nintendo 3DS Connect To The Internet?

Perhaps you are having trouble connecting to the network, to begin with. There are several reasons why this may be occurring. The simplest solution is to move your router, but you may need an equipment upgrade in some cases. The good news is that these are not expensive.

You Need A 5GHz Band

Bluetooth audio devices (such as speakers or soundbars) can interfere with the 2.4GHz. If you have multiple devices operating off this bar (as most people do), then this could be the reason why you are having trouble connecting your Wi-Fi. There are two potential solutions:

  • You can disconnect several devices to improve your connection to a 2.4GHz.
  • Upgrade your router/modem (This potential solution can help you in more ways than one.)

This may be a good time to upgrade to a dual-band router, which can support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. You can ask your provider for a new router, or you could save money by purchasing your router, which will save you $5 to $10 per month on equipment rental fees.

Here are some examples of dual-band routers capable of supporting 5 GHz:

Move The Location Of Your Router

If you’re far away from your router, then it shouldn’t be surprising that you are having trouble getting a good connection. Long distances, obstructions like filing cabinets, and other electronic devices can all interfere with your router signal.

  • Move the router to a centralized location in your home.
  • Place the router at a location above the floor.
  • Make sure that the router is not positioned right against filing cabinets, speakers, or other devices that can interfere with the signal.

Finally, if you are having persistent problems with your internet connection on all devices, then it may be time to invest in a Wi-Fi extender or repeater. These act to improve the range of your router and are quite affordable. One of the popular Wi-Fi boosters on the market is the loom Wi-Fi Extender Signal Booster.

Final Thoughts

The MAC address is located at the Internet Settings menu of your Nintendo 3DS. To get there, you will need to navigate through the Internet Settings menu, which can be found on the Home menu. There’s no need to quit your game to do this.
