How to Connect Lutron Caseta Dimmers and Switches to Google Home

Before getting started, you’ll need to have installed your Lutron Caseta into your home’s wiring grid. If you have not already done so, click here to learn about the installation process.

After that, take the following steps:

Download the Lutron App

The Lutron App is free on Google Play and Apple App Store. Keep in mind that it only works with certain versions. So, for instance:

• If you have an iPhone, it’ll need to be on iOS 13.6 or later to support the app.
• If you’re using a MacBook, it’ll also need to be on iOS 11 or later. It’ll also need an Apple M1 chip.
• If you’re using an Android phone, you’ll need version 5.0 and up to support the app.

How to Connect Lutron Caseta to WiFi Router

The easiest way to connect your Lutron Caseta to your home WiFi Router is to add your dimmers and switches to your Lutron app. They will be automatically added to your bridge.

If the dimmers and switches don’t work, you may need to cycle the power on your Smart Bridge. Unplug the power for 10 seconds, replug it back in, and power it back on. 

Any Lutron Caseta devices, such as switches and dimmers, should now be able to be added to the Lutron app and will be added to your WiFi.

Ensure that Your Google Home Is Connected

Make sure that your Google Home is connected to your Wi-Fi network. Give it a simple command and see if it works. If you’re already connected, proceed to the next step.

Enable Your Caseta in the Google Home App

You’ll need to enable “Caseta Wireless” in the app so the two devices can “talk” to each other. To do this:

1. Open the Google Home app.
2. Navigate to “Home Control.”
3. Select Caseta Wireless.
4. Follow the prompts on the screen and enter your user credentials.

Ensure your phone, Lutron Caseta, and Google Home Assistant is on the same Wi-Fi network. You should now be able to connect your Lutron Caseta with your Google Home.

How to Use Lutron Caseta With Google Home and Google Assistant

1. Open the Google Home app on your mobile device
2. Tap the 3-lined menu button in the upper left corner
3. Select More Settings
4. Select Services
5. Select the Caseta service
6. Select Link Account

Your Caseta devices should now be usable by Google Home and Google Assistant. Here are just a few of the possible commands you can use with Google Assistant:

• “Okay, Google, turn the lights on.”
• “Okay, Google, dim bedroom light by 30%.”
• “Okay, Google, open the living room shade.”

Troubleshooting Lutron Caseta and Google Home Connection

If you have any problems linking your two devices, you have options when troubleshooting the issue. Consider how the following measures could help you:

Reset Your Google Home

Try a hard reset. To reset your Google Home, simply locate the microphone button and hold it for 15 seconds. Keep in mind that by doing this, you may have to re-sync other devices.

Make Sure Your Lutron Caseta Is Connected to the Internet

Try giving your Lutron Caseta a command from your smartphone. If it doesn’t work, it’s not connected to the internet.

Periodically, you’ll need to update both the Google Home App and the Lutron app. These updates are free and generally fix any problems with your devices.

If you have an iPhone, you can check for updates by going to the Apple App Store on your device. Here, you’ll be able to see if any of your apps need updating.

If you have an Android, you’ll need to:

1. Click on the Google Play app.
2. Click on your profile icon.
3. Tap “Manage apps & device.”
4. Select “Update.”

Depending on your phone’s storage, you might need to delete an app to make space.

Is Your Lutron Caseta Bridge Working With Your WiFi Router?
