Whether you have decided to move to a new home, or simply upgrade your model and want to sell or give your old Doorbell, it can be difficult to navigate how to remove your old Doorbell from your account. This type of thing can turn out to be somewhat complex depending on the brand you use.

So, how do you change owners for an Arlo Doorbell? The Arlo app registers the devices you add to your account as a security feature to help you monitor their use, but it will also keep someone else from using your Doorbell if it’s already connected to your account. This is great for lowering the chance of theft, but it can make giving your Doorbell to someone else!  

Changing Owners

Luckily, removing the Doorbell from your account is an easy process, and we’ve provided for you here in this article, as well as some handy information you might want to share with the person adopting your Doorbell. So, let’s get into it with how to change the owner of your Arlo Doorbell!

You can change ownership of your Doorbell, as well as any Arlo device, by deleting the device from your Arlo App. To do so, follow the steps below: 

  1. Log into your Arlo App
  2. Select Mode
  3. Select the device you wish to remove
  4. Select Disarmed(in the case of some Arlo Cameras, you will have to Disarm the cam before removal)
  5. Select Settings
  6. Select My Device
  7. Scroll down and select Remove Device
  8. Select yes

Note: If you remove an Arlo Base Station, it will remove all devices connected to the Base Station.

Connecting A Device To Arlo App

Connecting your Arlo Doorbells to the Arlo App is a relatively easy process. You will need to make sure you have already installed the Arlo App on your phone, as well as created your login and account through the in-app instructions. 

To connect your device, follow the steps below: 

  1. Select your Arlo App
  2. Select Devices if it does not automatically appear on your screen
  3. Select Add New Device
  4. Select your device, and follow the in-app instructions to add to your account

The Arlo App will now lead you through the process of connecting your device to Wifi, either using Wifi Direct or connecting to your Smart Hub, Base Station, or other hub devices. 

It is important to note that the Arlo App will only allow one person to act as the Owner of the Doorbell and all other attached devices. For other non-household members to access the Doorbell, they will need to be added as Friends. Adding Friends To Your Arlo Account

To add Friends to your Arlo Account, follow these steps: 

  1. Open the Arlo App
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Account
  4. Select Grant Access
  5. Select Add
  6. Input the first name and email address of the person you are adding
  7. Select the devices you want your friend to have access to. 

There is an additional, optional, step to adding your friend. You can use the Allow Access Rights slider function to adjust the level of administrative rights your friend can have. We’ve provided a list of those possible privileges below: 

  • Camera Mic
  • Favorite and Share footage
  • Download and Delete footage
  • Snapshots
  • Record
  • View Motion Detection status
  • Access and change Modes 
  • Zoom and drag video footage 
  • Adjust Brightness

  • Play and Pause video footage
  • Mute the speaker
  • Play and Pause Video Footage

With the Allow Access Rights slider, you can adjust the level of access your Friends can have to your Arlo devices. This option is customized for each individual you add to your Arlo account, to ensure that each person only has the access level you want for them.

It is important to consider each Friend’s level of access and to only give access to people you can trust.
