How Easy is Spectrum to Self-Install?

Last Updated Jun 4, 2022
Plugging in a modem

Installing your Spectrum equipment yourself can save you a lot of time and money. Spectrum typically charges a fee for installation and makes you schedule an appointment that can be a week or more away.

Spectrum makes installing internet and cable by yourself extremely easy with their self-installation kits. The kits come with instructions and all the equipment you need for setup.

Spectrum’s self-installation is as simple as connecting a couple of cables in the correct places on the proper equipment. In this article, you’ll learn what to expect when choosing self-installation and what you can do if you run into issues.

Spectrum Internet Can Be Installed in 3 Simple Steps

Even if you’re unfamiliar with the names of the equipment and cords in the box, Spectrum internet can be installed in three simple steps using the instructions that come in the box.

Connect the Modem

Plug in your modem’s power cord and then connect the modem using a coax cable. One end of the cable is connected to the modem while the other is connected to the cable outlet in your wall. Both ends of the cable are the same so you don’t have to worry about which end goes where.

Connect Your Modem to a Computer or WiFi Router

The Modem is what provides you with an internet connection. If you don’t need WiFi and you want a wired connection to your computer, you can connect your computer directly to the modem using an ethernet cord. If you are installing WiFi, you’ll need to use the provided router and connect the ethernet cord from the modem to the internet port in the router. Once again, both ends of the ethernet cord are the same so it won’t matter which end of the cord goes to which device.

Activate Your Modem

Finally, you’ll need to activate your modem. Spectrum makes activation just as easy as installation. Visit spectrum.net/selfinstall using a smartphone, tablet, or computer to activate your Spectrum service. You can also install the MySpectrum app to activate your modem. Once this is done, you’ll have successfully self-installed your Spectrum internet.

Spectrum Provides Self-Installation Kits

When choosing to self-install with Spectrum, Spectrum will provide you with an installation kit. These kits include all the equipment you need for self-installation including instructions, a modem, a router, and cables. You won’t have to worry about running to Best Buy and having the awkward “I’m looking for the thing that connects to the thing” conversation.

Spectrum Includes Easy to Understand Instructions

If you’ve ever tried to install or assemble something yourself, you’ll know that the most important part is clear instructions. Not only does Spectrum provide easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions, but they make sure you understand which cables and equipment are included in your kit, what they are, what they look like, and where they go.

Spectrum’s Website Has Video Instructions

If you’re a better visual learner, then you’ll be happy to know that Spectrum has video instructions on their website that make self-installation even easier. If you’re having trouble following the booklet instructions, the videos on their website will provide step-by-step instructions that you can follow along with and pause as needed. It’s the next best thing to having someone install it for you.

Spectrum Offers Professional Support

Not everyone is tech-savvy so you may still get lost along the way. With Spectrum self-installation, just because the experts are not the ones installing your equipment for you doesn’t mean that they are not there to assist you. Spectrum offers chat support as well as support via phone. Just let one of the experts know where you are stuck and they’ll help you figure out what to do next.

Spectrum Has Numerous Self Installation Guides and Diagrams

With the number of guides Spectrum has about self-installation on its website, there is no way you can go wrong. There are several articles with step-by-step instructions on self-installation. Depending on the products you are trying to set up, there may be a few extra steps than the ones listed above. Spectrum has a guide and easy-to-follow instructions for each of these setups.

You’ll also find several diagrams on Spectrum’s website that are in color and labeled. These diagrams show exactly where the cords and plugs should go to ensure a successful installation.

Spectrum Has an App

The My Spectrum App can be used to activate your modem and troubleshoot any issues you are having with your equipment. You can also use it to connect with Spectrum support services. If you find an app easier to navigate than a website then the Spectrum app will only make installing your equipment even easier.

Given the simple instructions, the number of guides, and the amount of support offered, self-installation with Spectrum could not get any easier.
