If you are into smart home automation, you have probably come across the Wyze brand products. Along with smart locks and cameras, they also make smart plugs. Smart plugs are an affordable way to make the devices you plug into your home automated.

Wyze smart plugs work by connecting remotely to the Wyze app. By setting up the devices in the Wyze app, you can use your smartphone or tablet to turn the devices plugged into the outlet on and off.

You might be wondering how to use the Wyze plug and what devices you can use with the plug. Don’t worry, we will go over all the steps in this article. We will also discuss how to set up the plug.

What are Wyze Smart Plugs?

Wyze smart plugs are plugs you can control with WIFI. Even devices that are not smart can be turned on or off using your smart device. If you want to turn the device on or off, all you have to do is open up the Wyze app on your smartphone and control it remotely.

Wyze plugs are very affordable. If you are just beginning to smart automate your home for the first time, this can be a budget option to get started. Not only can you operate it with your phone when you’re away, but you can operate it with your voice using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

Some of the main features of the Wyze plugs include:

  • Can be controlled remotely with the Wyze app.
  • All your Wyze devices use the same app so they will all be in one convenient place.
  • Supports IFTTT applets which allow you to connect them to third-party devices
  • Set up features in the app that allow the plug to interact with Wyze cameras, Wyze Sense, and Wyze locks.
  • Gives you daily and weekly run time statistics

Overall, the Wyze plug is easy to use and easy to set up making it a great addition to your smart home.

If you have the new model, follow these steps:

  1. When it asks if you have a key symbol, choose Yes: Wyze Plug 2021 Version.
  2. Plug the Wyze plug into an outlet.
  3. Tap Next.
  4. Choose your WIFI password and then Next.
  5. Enter a name for the plug and then choose Finish.

Now, let’s see if Wyze Plug can turn on your TV.

Can Wyze Plug Turn On TV?

Unfortunately, you cannot use the Wyze plugs to turn a TV on and off. Smart Plugs work by cutting power off completely, not just turning the device off. This means when you turn the TV back on, it will just enter standby mode rather than completely turning on.

You probably don’t want to use a smart plug for any device that has to be reprogrammed or has a standby mode. This means you will have to go through the setup process again every time you turn it on.

These devices include:

  1. Televisions
  2. Alarm Clocks
  3. Automatic or programmed cookers
  4. Anything that doesn’t have a mechanical switch

You can test a device beforehand. If you plug the device back in and it doesn’t automatically turn back on, it should not be put into a smart plug.

Final Thoughts

Wyze Smart Plugs are a great way to turn your device on and off remotely. All you have to do is set up the plug in the Wyze app and then use it to switch the devices on and off as you need to.
