Xfinity Cable is the most popular cable service provider in the United States, with over 33 million customers, but sometimes their equipment doesn’t work all too well. What do you do when your remote stops working? How do you resync an Xfinity remote?

Pairing your Xfinity Remote after it has lost its connection will depend on which model of Xfinity Remote you own. Some are easily reset with a few button presses, and others require a few more steps.

The Xfinity Remote has a few different models; depending on which model you own, the instructions will differ. However, it is easy to differentiate the remotes from one another.

How Do I Resync My Xfinity Remote?

The Xfinity Remote connects to your Xfinity X1 or Flex Streaming Device. It allows the Xfinity Remote to control your television, so you don’t have to juggle so many remotes.

Most of the different Xfinity Remotes have fairly straightforward methods to resync your device. Some models are a bit more involved but nothing too difficult.

A few subtle ways, such as having a Setup button or not having a Setup button, allow you to differentiate which Xfinity Remote you have and which instructions to follow. You’ll be watching TV again in no time.

How to Identify Your Model of Xfinity Remote

The easiest way to identify your Xfinity Remote’s model number is by looking on the back panel or inside the remote’s battery compartment. The model number will be listed there.

The different models of Xfinity Remote are:

  • XR2
  • XR5
  • XR11 (Voice Remote)
  • XR11 (Voice Remote without a Setup button)
  • XR16

Once you determine which model you have, you can follow the instructions to resync that remote to your device from the list below.

If for some reason, your remote doesn’t have the label telling you the model number, most of the Xfinity Remotes can be resynced using the settings for the XR2, XR5, and XR11.

There are some reasons your Xfinity remote won’t be working correctly, so it will need to be resynced.

Only the XR11 without the Setup button and the XR16 differ. If any instructions don’t work for your model, try one of the other methods in case of updates or mislabeled model numbers.

Pair Xfinity Remotes XR2, XR5, and XR11 (Voice Remote)

  1. Make sure there are fresh batteries in your Xfinity Remote
  2. Make sure your TV box is powered on
  3. Press and hold the Setup button on your Xfinity Remote until the LED on the remote changes from Red to Green
  4. Press the Xfinity Button on the Xfinity Remote
  5. If you are connecting your Xfinity Remote to an Xfinity Digital Transfer Adapter (DTA), you may need to press the Xfinity button five times.
  6. Enter your three-digit pairing code displayed on the screen
  7. Your Xfinity Remote should now be paired with your TV box

Note: If, after step 4, the instructions on your screen don’t advance, you may need to press the Xfinity button multiple times to advance to the next screen, where you can enter your pairing code.

Pair Xfinity Remote XR11 (Voice Remote Without a Setup Button)

  1. Make sure there are fresh batteries in your Xfinity Remote
  2. Make sure your TV box is powered on
  3. Select your television’s input, so it is connected to the Xfinity TV Box
  4. Press and hold the “Xfinity” and “Info” buttons for 10 seconds
  5. Wait until the LED Voice Remote light changes from red to green
  6. Enter your three-digit pairing code displayed on the screen
  7. Your Xfinity Voice Remote should now be paired with your Xfinity TV box

Note: Once you have activated the TV box with your Xfinity Remote, you can connect it to control your TV by following these directions:

  1. Press and hold the “Xfinity” and “Mute” buttons on your Xfinity Remote for 10 seconds
  2. Wait for the LED Voice Remote light to change from red to green
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete pairing the Xfinity Remote to your TV

This way, you can control your Xfinity TV box and your actual television with the same remote and won’t be forced to juggle remotes back and forth to watch television.

Pair Xfinity Voice Remote XR16

  1. Turn on your streaming device
  2. Turn on your TV
  3. Make sure to remove the pull tab on the back of the Xfinity Remote to activate the remote
  4. While pointing the remote at your TV – Press the “Microphone” button
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to continue pairing your remote to your TV

Note: The Xfinity Voice Remote XR16 has no number keys and only works when connecting to a Flex streaming device.

Conclusion

Sometimes modern remotes can easily get random interference and disconnect from their devices. If not involved, it is a relatively simple task to reconnect them.

It’s also important to note that you can only control one TV box with a single Xfinity Remote at a time. To control another TV box, you will need to connect the Xfinity Remote to that box.
