How Can I Make My Ring Chime Louder?

Last Updated Sep 23, 2021
Person with pink gloves ringing a doorbell.

Here you are, you have your ring device all set up. You have installed it correctly and your view looks good. That is the good news. The bad news: someone had rung the bell and you can hardly hear it.

This is an easy fix. In this article, we will review a couple of different settings and devices to find the volume control. Tones will also be covered to show you how to get the most out of your volume.

Instructions Will Vary Depending on Model

How does that old adage go? “All things are created equal?” In this instance, it does not apply.

How you will operate the volume for the Ring Chime and Ring Chime Pro will change from the way you operate the Ring Chime 2nd Generation. The volume levels for 1st generation Chimes are as follows:

  • Silent
  • Very Low
  • Low
  • Loud
  • Loudest

The volume control has a different interface for the 2nd generation. The volume for this device is on a slider scale. For the 1st generation simply choose which of the five settings you would like. If the device is turned down go ahead and choose a louder setting. This would be found in audio settings, not in tone settings.

You Need to Link the Chime to Your App

Install the app on your smart device. This is free to use, find it on your play store for Google or Apple. You can use a smartphone or a tablet for this.

1st Generation Models (Ring Chime)

On the home screen click chimes to open it up. There you will see the list of your chime devices. Go to your audio settings for the chime tones. There is a list of tones and you can pick the tone you feel is loudest. There is a slider scale for the tones within this feature.

Navigate Ring Chime Pro

Open the app on your smartphone or tablet. Click “devices” at the top left corner of the app. Select the options for chime and chime tones. Now you will see the screen for the control slider.

You Can Get a Louder Chime Based on Tone

Certain ring chimes just sound louder than others. Luckily you can create a tone and save it. If you feel that the pre-installed tones do not get loud enough here is what you do…

  • Open dashboard on the top left of the screen
  • Open Devices
  • Choose your device
  • Audio Settings
  • Select your ringtone

Options To Possibly Increase Volume

As recently stated above, changing your tone can make your doorbell sound louder. You can choose a soft tone. No matter how high you choose the volume to be it still won’t chime as loud as the Play it Loud feature for example.

How to Change The Tone on Android App

First, you open up your device settings.  Then go ahead and click on your alert settings.

You are going to choose App Alert Tones. From there click Ring Alerts. Your front door ring notification page will then open. You are going to want to choose the advanced options feature. When you open this the sound options will appear.

Change The Tone on the iPhone App

Open the device and from there choose audio settings. There you will see all of the sound tones. The advanced feature will have specific sound groupings.

There are so Many Tones That You Can Use!

The my sounds feature would be those sounds that you have already downloaded to your device. There are a variety of free apps where free chimes are available for download.  In your chime settings, there are other tones such as:

  • Pixel Sounds
  • Classical Harmonies
  • Minimal Melodies
  • Reality Bytes
  • Retro Riffs
  • Play it Loud
  • Seasonal Celebrations

There are more tone selections on the pro version than on the original ring chime. For optimum volume options, the chime pro would be the better option.

How Does Having a Mechanical vs. Digital Chime Affect Volume?

So you may be thinking the volume control is the same rather or not your device is installed mechanically or digitally right? Think again! When your device is installed mechanically your chime tones are limited and few. There is not an opportunity to choose a louder tone. The volume is also standard. A digital tone allows for downloads, expanding the selection of tones and volumes.

In Conclusion

Now your device is hooked up you know how to make your ring chime louder. Although the ring comes in a variety of models adjusting the chime tones and volumes are simple. You can always refer to the videos included in this article if viewing it makes instructions easier.
