Most new parents are nervous about leaving their child alone in a room. They must constantly ensure the baby is doing okay, cutting into the few spare minutes new parents have to relax. For this reason, a great baby monitor is invaluable. Infant Optics baby monitors allow you to check on your infant wherever you are in the home. The only problem is, these machines have an antenna with a habit of breaking.

The only way to fix a broken Infant Optics antenna is by replacing it with a new one. However, it can be complicated to do so, as these antennas aren’t made to be replaced. It may be easier to take advantage of your warranty or find a replacement monitor on the company’s website.

The best option for you depends on several factors. Keep reading to see how each will work for you!

Should I Fix or Replace My Infant Optics Antenna?

There are a few great Infant Optics baby monitors to choose from. The Infant Optics DXR-8 PRO Baby Monitor, in particular, gives parents the power to look after their babies while they sleep peacefully.

These kits come with:

  • A remote thermometer
  • A camera with a zoom lens
  • A monitor with an antenna

The included antenna is crucial to get reception and see the video feed of your child from anywhere. However, many Infant Optics antennas can be problematic. It is one of the first parts that break, which can be a big problem. Without a functioning antenna, your monitor will no longer work.

If this happens to you, you must decide whether you want to fix the antenna or replace the monitor altogether. Both options are viable, but neither is necessarily easy. For this reason, it’s important to consider each before you commit.

Fixing Your Infant Optics Baby Monitor Antenna

The easiest way to fix your baby monitor’s antenna is to replace it with a new antenna. While you could attempt to salvage the old antenna by gluing it back on, that doesn’t always work.

Infant Optics does not offer direct replacements for antennas. For this reason, you will need to get a little bit creative with the process.

How to Replace an Infant Optics Baby Monitor Antenna

You can fix the antenna on your Infant Optics baby monitor by purchasing a replacement antenna, then soldering it onto your monitor. Follow the steps below to do so:

  • Purchase a compatible antenna and connector set.
  • Remove the broken antenna from your monitor. On some versions, you will need to open the monitor’s mainboard to do so.
  • Solder the new antenna adapter onto the mainboard. If necessary, drill the antenna hole to make it big enough to accommodate the new antenna.

This process can be complicated if you aren’t comfortable with soldering or wiring. Make sure you know what you’re doing before you begin, or you might make things worse.

Some people have had luck just gluing their old antenna back onto the monitor. While this is an option, it’s not feasible for many.

Replacing Your Infant Optics Monitor

If you don’t have the technical know-how or time to replace just the antenna, or if your monitor is still covered under warranty, it may be better to replace the monitor altogether. Infant Optics offers replacement monitors for some of their products, while others will require you to purchase an entirely new setup.

Replacing a Monitor for Infant Optics DXR-8

The Infant Optics DXR-8 baby monitor offers two versions: the standard and the Pro. If your antenna breaks on one of these devices, you can buy a replacement monitor on the company’s website.

Make sure you buy the correct one for your machine. They may look similar, but the standard monitor won’t work on the Pro version and vice versa. While buying just the monitor instead of the entire kit is cheaper, it is still pricey.

Replacing a Monitor for Infant Optics DXR-5

The Infant Optics DXR-5 baby monitor is a much cheaper option than the DXR-8 models upfront. But replacing a monitor with a broken antenna becomes a more expensive problem.

The company does not give you the option of buying a monitor separately. If you can’t fix the monitor, you will have to buy a whole new system, including a monitor and camera.

Which is Better: Fixing or Replacing?

Infant Optics antennas are what stream the video feed of your child from the camera to your monitor screen. For this reason, it’s essential to ensure the antenna is working properly at all times.

While you can purchase a replacement antenna and solder it to your mainboard, replacing the monitor altogether is a better option for some people. Check the Infant Optics website to see if your device model offers replacement monitors before deciding. Contacting customer support is the best course of action if your product is still covered under warranty.
