The great thing about Ring Stick-Up Cams is that they work both inside and outside. But what about when you want to monitor your home at night? Does the camera have night vision to support this?

The Ring Stick-Up Cam (Wired) has night vision. It automatically turns on when it gets dark outside. Furthermore, Ring recently released a feature that also lets you see color in the dark; you can enable or disable this feature in the Ring app.

What Ring Devices Come with Night Vision?

Not all of Ring’s devices come with night vision. In addition to the Ring Stick-Up Camera (Wired), these products feature night vision:

If you’re not sure whether your device features night vision, consult your user manual. You can also check out this article published by Ring.

How to Use Night Vision on the Ring Stick-Up Cam

As noted, the night vision feature on your Ring Stick-Up Cam automatically turns on. However, for whatever reason, if it doesn’t, consider doing the following:

  • Reset your camera. You can do this by holding down on the orange button located behind the camera’s back panel. The light will start flashing. Once it’s stopped, you’ve successfully reset your device.
  • Disable the night vision color feature. The night vision color feature relies on infrared light, which may or may not be suitable for your conditions. Later on this page, you can learn more about enabling or disabling this feature.
  • Charge your camera. As your camera runs low on battery, your camera might disable certain features to conserve energy. Ring recommends monitoring your device’s use to see how often you need to charge it.

How to Get the Best Night Vision Footage on the Stick Up Cam

Your Ring Stick-Up Cam does a good job on its own capturing footage at night. However, to get the best possible picture, you should:

  • Place your camera seven to nine feet above the ground. Ring notes that this height will increase your camera’s field of vision.
  • Check your internet connection. If you constantly get delayed notifications or error messages, your internet connection might not be strong enough. Consider contacting your service provider or placing the camera closer to the router. Alternatively, you might consider purchasing a Wi-Fi extender like the TP-Link AC750.
  • Remove any obstructions. Again, you want your Ring Stick-Up Cam to have a clear line of vision. Make sure that trees, bushes, shrubs, and lawn ornaments don’t block the camera. Also, check for any obstructions that could block the connection between the router and the camera.
  • Keep your camera charged. Once it gets 32 degrees Fahrenheit outside, your battery won’t last as long as it used to. How long your camera’s battery lasts depends on how often it’s used.

If you’re not satisfied with your footage, you can play with the light settings in the Ring app until you get the desired picture. You can learn more about this process by clicking here.

How to Use the Ring Stick-Up Cam’s Night Vision Color Feature

As noted, Ring recently released a feature that allows you to view color with night vision. If you want to enable or disable the night vision color feature, you should:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Tap the three lines on the upper left-hand side.
  3. Choose “Devices.”
  4. Select your Ring Stick-Up Cam.
  5. Choose “Device Settings.”
  6. Tap “Video Settings.”
  7. Select “Color Night Vision.”

Here, you can turn the feature on and off. Keep in mind that some items will not be in color, such as items too far away from the camera’s infrared light. Also, remember that the colors themselves may not be accurate.

Do You Have to Use Color with the Stick-Up Cam’s Night Vision?

Disabling the night vision color feature does not disable night vision altogether on the Ring Stick-Up Cam.

Some users have complained that they got a less-than-ideal picture after enabling the night vision color feature, so if the same case applies to you, know that you can turn off this feature at any time.

However, remember that the Ring Stick-Up Cam uses a combination of infrared light and artificial intelligence (AI) to “guess” what color matches what object. If you’re concerned about capturing color at night, consider putting some lights around the camera to enhance the picture.

A Final Word

The Ring Stick-Up Cam (Wired) has night vision. It also lets you see color in the dark. Still, if you’re not getting the best possible picture, it is recommended that you place lights around the camera.
