Does The Eufy Floodlight Camera Work Without WiFi?

Last Updated Jul 14, 2022

Eufy Floodlight Cameras are extremely exciting to receive. You get a new smart device to use and keep your family and home safe. Smart lights are intuitive, bright, and wireless, making them easy to use for everyday security purposes. Upon setting up, you might wonder, “Does the Eufy Floodlight Camera work without WiFi?”

The Eufy Floodlight Camera doesn’t work without WiFi. It needs a specific, steady gigahertz connection to work. However, it doesn’t need a typical router/modem setup that many other smart devices require to function.

Not only do the Eufy floodlight cameras need WiFi, but all Eufy cameras need WiFi. Using a Eufy Floodlight Camera with WiFi is the best option. Without WiFi, the floodlight camera becomes a house ornament since it cannot function. Keep reading if you want to learn the best way to connect it to WiFi and some WiFi troubleshooting tips.

How to Connect the Eufy Floodlight Camera to WiFi

Now that you know you need to connect the floodlight camera using WiFi, you may wonder exactly how to accomplish this. The process is relatively simple and requires a smartphone, the Eufy Floodlight Camera, and a secure internet connection. Follow these steps to make the WiFi connection work. Once you’re in the Eufy Security App:

  1. Select Add Device
  2. Press the +
  3. Scan the QR code on the Eufy Floodlight Camera box or enter the serial number for the camera
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to power the camera
  5. Click Next
  6. Tap the flashing red button on the app and hold it until it beeps
  7. Pick the WiFi network and select Confirm

Finally, once your Eufy Floodlight Camera is connected to WiFi, tap Next and name the camera if you desire.

The Eufy Floodlight Camera is now properly installed. You can check the app regularly to see if any notifications, movements, or other alerts are available. These alerts will stay in the cloud in the app for up to 30 days unless you specify otherwise.

What to do if you Don’t Have a Modem

You are not out of luck if you don’t have a traditional router and modem setup for your Eufy Floodlight Camera. The Eufy Floodlight Camera can connect to the internet via hotspot if a user chooses. This is a great way to use this camera at a campground or remote area.

To achieve this, the floodlight camera will need to be hooked to a traditional router and modem setup for the initial setup. This can be done at a friend’s or family’s home before the camera is moved onto a hotspot connection. Here is how it works:

  1. Traditionally connect the Eufy Floodlight Camera as outlined in the section above.
  2. Turn on the hotspot on your phone or hotspot device
  3. Go back into the app and go to the device settings.
  4. Adjust the network connection to the hotspot.

Now the Eufy Floodlight Camera is connected to the internet through the hotspot. This means it can be used in an area that does not have a typical network connection. It takes a few extra steps, but the result is well worth the overall effort.

Remember that you’ll still need to use the Homebase since it’s a Eufy outdoor camera.

WiFi Defiance

When connecting technology to WiFi, it can become a process. This is because connectivity is not always easy. Occasionally there are network errors, cabling errors, and router or modem problems. This can affect the overall result or performance of WiFi connectivity. To fix the issues, follow the tips we have outlined below.

Connection Speed Compatibility

One major issue you may come across is gigahertz compatibility. The Eufy Floodlight Camera only works on a 2.4GHz connection. If you have a connection that is higher than this requirement, then the floodlight camera will not be able to function. Call your internet service provider to see how they can help you navigate this issue.

Out of Range

Sometimes we do not realize that a smart device needs to be within a certain range of the internet to function properly. This is why the Eufy Floodlight Camera will stop working or begin to lag. The Eufy Floodlight Camera needs to be within 3,000 square feet of wireless internet connection to function.

If you cannot meet this with just a router, then it is time to look into a WiFi extender. A Google Nest WiFi Extender is a great way to give your home more internet coverage if you are using a Google WiFi setup. This should ultimately fix your WiFi connection issues and get your floodlight camera back in crisp working order.

Dual Networks

If you set your Eufy Floodlight Camera to a different WiFi network than its companion app, you will notice that it will seem to be malfunctioning. This is because the smartphone app and the floodlight camera must be connected to the same WiFi connection to communicate. Otherwise, you will not get the alerts and notifications the floodlight camera is known for.

Keep Your Home Safe

Eufy has a great line of security devices to help keep your home safe. They are convenient and easy to use. So go ahead and make the purchase; you will not regret the value you receive from their lines of products.
