Does Spectrum Require a Deposit? TV, Internet, Voice, and Mobile

Last Updated Jul 16, 2022
Fanning out dollar bills

Spectrum has been becoming more popular in recent years. This is not only because their range of products has grown, but also because they have a great reputation for customer service. But, what do you need to do to sign up for a Spectrum account? Does Spectrum require a deposit for TV, internet, voice, or mobile services?

You do not have to pay a deposit for Spectrum Internet, Voice, Mobile, or even Spectrum TV. However, they perform credit checks on anyone that wants to open an account for one of their services. Depending on your credit, they may ask you to pay the first monthly bill upfront.

Below, we will discuss more about deposits and other important sign up information. Read on before you sign up for Spectrum!

Does Spectrum Require a Deposit for TV, Internet, Voice, or Mobile?

Opening a new account with Spectrum will not require a deposit. This is true for all their services, including:

  • TV
  • Voice
  • Mobile
  • Internet

Spectrum works hard to offer excellent customer satisfaction rates. They understand that most customers do not want to pay a deposit to get a working phone, internet, or television connection. No one wants to pay what feels like unnecessary costs.

However, Spectrum does run a credit check on all new customers. If you have a lower credit score or several outstanding accounts, they might ask that you pay the first month’s bill and any installation fees you incur during setup upfront.

If you have a high credit score, Spectrum may offer you the choice of paying your first bill at the end of the first month of use. Although some people don’t like the idea of credit checks, the company also needs to protect itself. You won’t pay a deposit, so the credit check provides this protection.

Spectrum now offers a plethora of telecommunication services to their customers. Below, we will discuss each of these and the sign-up process in more detail.

What is Spectrum TV?

Spectrum TV is Spectrum’s cable TV and streaming service provider. While you will not need to pay a deposit to connect, the service is only available to existing Spectrum Internet subscribers. They offer low monthly rates as a thank you to their customers, and because you cannot sign-up without having an existing account, they have a pretty good indication of how well you pay your current bills.

Spectrum also does not charge any early cancellation fees. If you ever choose to switch to another cable provider, you can do so easily without paying any penalties.

What is Spectrum Internet?

Spectrum Internet is where it all began. Spectrum has built a strong reputation as an internet provider, which is why many people now choose them over other ISPs. But, before you can open an account, you need company approval.

As mentioned, Spectrum will do a credit check before they open your account. This is pretty standard for most internet providers. You will never have to pay a security deposit, but your credit history will determine if you need to pay the first month’s bill immediately or if it will be billed to you at the due date.

The same goes for any installation fees. Spectrum may need to install a broadband internet connection or a WiFi router to give you access to the internet. They could ask you to pay these fees immediately, but they may also allow you to pay them at the end of your first payment period.

However, it’s important that you pay this bill by the due date. If you fail to do so, they could suspend services and take back any equipment they have provided for you.

What is Spectrum Mobile?

Spectrum partners with Verizon to offer their customers a mobile phone plan, Spectrum Mobile. Again, the company will try to avoid charging clients a deposit or any upfront fees as long as they can do so in a way that minimizes their own risks. Customers with good credit scores and those currently in good standing with the company can easily get a Spectrum Mobile connection.

The only difference is when you buy your phone. You can use a variety of phones with Spectrum Mobile, including some of the newest models from iPhone and Android. Some purchase plans require you to pay a down payment. Again, this depends on your credit score, as well as the price of the phone you want to buy.

What is Spectrum Voice?

Spectrum Voice is the company’s home phone line plan. Like all other Spectrum services, Spectrum Voice does not require an initial deposit. Instead, you will pay your first installment at the end of the payment period, as long as you have decent credit.

You also have the option of setting up automatic payments online. This way, you can always ensure your bill is paid on time to avoid penalties.

Final Thoughts

Spectrum tries hard to make payments as easy as possible for their customers. Whether you’re a Spectrum Internet, TV, Voice, or Mobile customer, you will never have to pay a deposit when you sign up for service. As long as your credit is in good standing, you will pay nothing until your first due date.
