It comes as no surprise that Google and Sonos have created some of the best audio products in the past couple of years. Both companies have consistently provided devices that improve the smart home and audio experience, but it can be hard to choose between one or the other. Does Google Nest Audio work with Sonos?

The good news is Google Nest Audio is compatible with Sonos, and you can connect your Sonos account to your Google Nest Audio speaker as well as add Google assistant to your Sonos speakers.

How Do You Control Sonos with your Google Nest Audio?

The Google Nest Audio is a great speaker to add to your home for full coverage audio.

You can use the Google Home App to connect your Sonos speaker with your Google Nest Audio. There are a couple of different options to connect your Sonos Speakers with your Google Nest Audio Speaker.

Sonos speakers like the Sonos One and Sonos Beam can be directly set up with your current Google Audio devices to act as an additional speaker throughout your home. The Sonos One and Sonos Beam speakers both have wifi compatibility and can be used as additional Google Assistants in your home.

The rest of Sonos devices can be connected to your Google Nest Audio or other Google Smart Speaker via Bluetooth.

How to Stream Music From Your Google Device to Another Bluetooth Speaker?

To use your Google speaker as a controller for another Bluetooth speaker, you need to set up a connection within the Google Home app.

  • Open the Google Home app
  • Navigate to the Google speaker that you would like to pair with another Bluetooth speaker
  • Within that Google speaker’s menu, select the settings ‘gear’ icon.
  • Next select “Audio.”
  • Go to “Paired Bluetooth devices.”
  • Ensure your Bluetooth speaker is on the list. If not, select “Enable Pairing Mode” and add the new Bluetooth speaker
  • Back out of the Paired Bluetooth devices menu
  • Open the “Default Music Speaker”
  • Select the Bluetooth speaker

If you have successfully followed these steps, now, when you ask your Google Assistant speaker to play any type of media, the audio will play through your Bluetooth speaker rather than the Google speaker.

These steps will allow you to connect your Bluetooth Sonos speaker to your Google Nest Audio and allow you to connect any Bluetooth speaker to your Google smart speaker.

How Do You Add Google Assistant to a Sonos Speaker?

If you have a wifi-enabled Sonos Speaker like the Sonos One or Sonos Beam, you can quickly add Google assistant to these speakers and use Google Assistant to control them.

  • Open the Sonos app on your phone
  • Navigate to Settings (the gear icon in the lower left-hand corner)
  • In settings, navigate to “Services,” then “Voice,” then “Add a Service.”
  • Select Google Assistant, then “Add Google Assistant.”

This will now open Google Assistant on your phone and prompt you to log in to your Sonos Account in the Google Assistant App.

Playing Music on your Sonos Smart Speaker through Google Assistant

Now that you have Google Assistant set up for your Sonos Speaker,  you will need to set up your different music services in both Google assistant and Sonos to be able to ask Google assistant to play audio on your Sonos Speaker.

Adding a Music Service to the Google Assistant App

Within the Google assistant app, you can set up various music services so you can play your favorite music through your smart speakers without even needing to unlock your phone.

To set this up, open your Google Assistant App and navigate to your profile, then services, then music. From here, you can log into your various music and audio services and subscriptions.

Adding a Music Services to the Sonos App

You will need to add the same services to your Sonos App to be able to play your music on a Sonos speaker with Google assistant.

To add a music service in the Sonos app, navigate Settings and select “Services & Voice.” Within the “Services & Voice” menu, under “Music & Content,” choose “Add a Service.” This will then allow you to log into your music service in your Sonos App. Repeat this process to add all of the music and audio services you added to your Google Assistant app.

Now that you have set up your various accounts with Google and Sonos, you can ask your Google Assistant to play your favorite audio on your Sonos Speaker.
