Thinking about investing in a smart home speaker? If so, you have probably heard about the Google Nest Audio as it is one of the market’s leading devices. This handy little appliance has a lot of amazing features, but you may be wondering, does Google Nest Audio have audio out?

The Google Nest Audio does not have audio out. This means that you cannot connect an external speaker to the device itself, however, because the Nest Audio has a fairly powerful speaker itself, you really don’t need the audio jack.

In this article, we are going to learn how to enhance the Nest Audio’s sound by pairing it with another speaker or entertainment system, as well as how to use your voice to command the Nest Audio, and even whether or not the internal speaker is going to be sufficient for your home. So keep reading! We have everything you need to know.

How to Connect the Google Nest Audio to an External Speaker

So unfortunately, the Google Nest Audio does not have an audio out jack, but you will be happy to know that there is still an option to connect the device to an external speaker in case you want louder and better quality audio entertainment than the Nest Audio can provide.

You will need to use the built-in Bluetooth option to pair the Nest Audio to the speaker or system of your choice, and luckily, the instructions are incredibly simple!

  • Make sure that the speaker you are trying to connect has Bluetooth options, and turn the Bluetooth pairing option to ON.
  • Open the Google Home app on your mobile phone or tablet.
  • Select the Nest Audio icon.
  • On the top right corner of your screen, select SETTINGS, then AUDIO.
  • NOTE: if this is the first time you are using Bluetooth on your Nest Audio, you will need to click on PAIRED BLUETOOTH DEVICES and select ENABLE PAIRING MODE.
  • Select DEFAULT MUSIC SPEAKER, then PAIR BLUETOOTH SPEAKER.
  • A list of available devices will appear.
  • Tap the speaker name with which you wish to connect, then click DONE.

That’s it! The Google Nest Audio should now be connected to the speaker via Bluetooth, and you can now command the Nest Audio to play the audio entertainment of your choice, and you will be able to hear it play through the external speaker.

How to Command Nest Audio to Play Audio Entertainment

Once you have connected the Nest Audio to an external speaker, you can easily listen to any of your favorite media options with just the sound of your voice.

No matter which application you want to use to listen to your music, podcasts, or audiobooks, you can command the Google Assistant built-in to the Nest Audio by using simple voice commands.

In order to do so, you need to wake up the Nest Audio by starting with “Hey Google” or “Okay Google.” You can then open the app of your choosing by saying “Play music with [app name].”

From there, it is easy to control your entertainment through the many Google commands listed on their website.

Does the Nest Audio Offer Sufficient Sound Quality?

Although as you have just learned, it is quite easy to connect the Nest Audio to an external speaker, you should also know a little more about the Nest Audio built-in speaker.

Fortunately, Google has seriously improved the sound on the Nest Audio compared to its predecessor, the Google Home.

In fact, the speaker is 75% louder and the base has a 50% better performance. Consumers have reported that the new and improved speaker is quite impressive, however, it is still not as powerful as a home entertainment or surround sound system.

At the end of the day, it’s your call on whether or not you want a louder speaker connected to your Nest Audio, but remember, as there is no audio out, the only way to connect the two devices is via Bluetooth.

Final Thoughts

Even though Google Nest Audio does not have audio out, it can still connect to external speakers with the built-in Bluetooth capabilities.

And depending on how loudly you want to listen to your music, podcasts, or audio books, you may never even need to connect the device to an external speaker as the speaker itself is certainly substantial.

However, hopefully you now know all of the various options as well as how to connect and even command the Nest Audio so you can enjoy your favorite entertainment any time!
