Does Eero Make Your Wi-Fi Faster?
Eero routers and Wi-Fi extenders are easy to set-up and use. They’re built to replace your existing Wi-Fi router, so you may be asking yourself if Eero can actually help make your Wi-Fi faster, too.
Eero routers and Wi-Fi extenders can make a home or office’s Wi-Fi faster depending on the speeds of the Internet plan and the previous router. Eero may provide faster Internet when it is replacing an older or slower router. In other cases, Wi-Fi speeds may be slower when using Eero.
Many factors determine your Internet and Wi-Fi speeds. Understanding these various factors will help ensure that you are getting the best Internet experience with your Eero Wi-Fi system.
Can Eero Improve Wi-Fi Speeds?
There is not a simple answer to the question of whether Eero makes your Wi-Fi faster. It depends on several circumstances, including how fast your old router was and what type of Internet plan you have.
The maximum Internet speeds for an Eero router are 600 Mbps or 240 Mbps when using the 2.4 GHz frequency. The faster and more expensive Eero Pro has maximum Internet speeds of 1 Gbps using its 5.8 GHz frequency. These speeds make Eero routers some of the fastest personal use routers on the market today.
Using Eero can often increase your Wi-Fi speeds because you can add Eero Wi-Fi extenders called Beacons around your house. This way, your Wi-Fi speeds won’t slow down when you are far from your router.
Your Wi-Fi speeds should remain the same or comparable when extended through an Eero Beacon. You can confirm this by performing the Internet speed test while standing near your Eero Beacons and comparing the results to the test performed while standing next to your router.
Note: The maximum speeds of your Eero Wi-Fi may be lower depending on your Internet plan. Contact your Internet service provider to determine the maximum Internet speed that your plan allows or to upgrade to faster Internet.
Understanding Your Wi-Fi Speeds
If you aren’t sure what your current Wi-Fi speeds are, you can perform a free Internet speed test using this link. The speeds will vary depending on where you on standing in relation to where your router is. The further you move away from your router, the slower your Wi-Fi speeds will get.
Faster Wi-Fi Speeds with the Eero Pro
If you are looking for faster Wi-Fi, consider purchasing the Eero Pro. It uses tri-band technology, whereas the regular Eero is only dual-band. The tri-band technology allows for significantly faster Wi-Fi. The Eero Pro’s maximum speeds are almost double that of the original Eero router.
Check out the comparison table below to learn more about the similarities and differences between the two Eero routers:
|Description||The original Eero can act as a Wi-Fi router or extender.||The Eero Pro can also act as a router or extender. It is faster but more expensive than the regular Eero.|
|Maximum Internet Speeds||600 Mbps||1 Gbps|
|Frequencies Used||2.4 GHz and 5 GHz||2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 5.8 GHz|

More Tips for Faster Wi-Fi
We rely on Wi-Fi for so many things we do in our lives, and slow Wi-Fi can be extremely frustrating. So, if your Eero doesn’t seem to boost your Wi-Fi speeds, below are some additional tips to make your Wi-Fi faster:
Experiment with Beacon Placement
Eero Beacons extend the range of the Wi-Fi from your router. Each Beacon has a range of 1,500 square feet.
You can add more Eero Beacons to your system anytime to increase your Wi-Fi speeds in certain areas. Using Eero Beacons is especially helpful if certain areas in your home or office are “dead zones,” meaning your Wi-Fi doesn’t reach there.
You can even move the Beacons around as needed to adjust your Wi-Fi connection throughout your space. To move a Beacon, simply unplug it and plug it into another wall outlet.
Restart Your Router
To keep your Wi-Fi operating at top speeds, you may also want to restart your router and modem regularly:
- Unplug the power cords from the router and modem.
- Wait at least one minute.
- Plug the modem back in and wait for it to start up.
- Plug the router back in.
In summary, the maximum Wi-Fi speed of Eero routers is 600 Mbps, and the max speed for the Eero Pro is 1 Gbps. However, keep in mind that the actual Wi-Fi speeds you experience may be slower depending on your Internet plan; they cannot exceed the max speeds of both your existing router and plan. If you’re not sure what your plan includes, contact your Internet service provider for more details.
