Does Echo Show 15 Work with Zoom?

Last Updated Aug 2, 2022
Man and woman on Zoom call

You want to use the 15-inch screen on your Echo Show 15 to make video calls with family and friends through Zoom. However, you are unsure if the device is compatible with the application. You might have seen people using Zoom on other Echo devices, but never on an Echo Show 15. Now you’re wondering: will this device work with Zoom?

Currently, Zoom is not compatible with the Echo Show 15. It is, however, available on the 1st and 2nd generation Echo Show 8 and the 3rd generation Echo Show 10. Amazon expects to add Zoom compatibility to the Echo Show 15 in late 2022.

Even though you cannot use Zoom on the Echo Show 15, making video calls on the device is still possible. Keep reading to learn more about the different ways you can do this using the Echo Show 15!

Does Echo Show 15 Work with Zoom?

Over the past few years, we have become very familiar with video calling applications, particularly Zoom. Zoom is currently the most popular video calling application for people working from home or looking to connect with friends across the country.

However, it is currently not possible to place a video call on the Echo Show 15 through Zoom. While this option is available on the first and second-generation Echo Show 8 and the third-generation Echo Show 10, don’t expect to see Zoom compatibility on the Echo Show 15 until later this year.

Other Ways to Make Video Calls on the Echo Show 15

Although you cannot do so through Zoom, sending and receiving video calls on your Echo Show 15 through other applications is still possible. The two main options include:

  • Alexa App
  • Skype

In the following sections, we will discuss in detail how to place video calls using both applications. Keep reading to learn how to set these apps up and get started.

Making Video Calls on the Alexa App

The Alexa app allows you to make calls to other Echo Show devices in your home, as well as Echo Show devices in other homes. Below, we’ll discuss the process of doing each.

Making Video Calls to Echo Shows in Your Home

If you want to call another Echo Show device in your home, you can simply ask Alexa to call that device. However, you will need to enable the Drop In feature in the Alexa app before doing so. Follow these steps:

  • Open the Alexa App.
  • Go to the Communications tab.
  • Enable “Alexa Calling” and “Messaging.”
  • Enable “Drop In.”

You can ask Alexa to call the device and wait for the other person to answer, or you can just drop in. When you drop in, the other person will not need to answer before the call begins. However, the video will be blurry for the first 10 seconds for security and privacy reasons.

Making Video Calls to Echo Shows in Other Homes

Not only can you call Echo Show devices within your own home, but you can also call Echo Shows in other homes through the Alexa app. Doing this, however, requires a few extra steps. Follow these steps on your smartphone or tablet:

  • Open the Alexa App.
  • Open the Communications tab.
  • Enable “Alexa Calling” and “Messaging.”
  • Enable “Drop In.”
  • Import your contact list from your phone, or add your preferred contacts manually.

Keep in mind that the person you want to call must also add you as a contact in their Alexa app. Once this is done, you can ask Alexa to call the person or drop in to their Echo device, and a video call will begin.

Making Video Calls with Skype

You can also make audio and video calls from your Echo Show 15 using Skype. First, however, you will need to download Skype and set it up. To do so, follow the steps below:

  • Open the Alexa App.
  • Click on the menu (3 lines on the top left).
  • Press “Settings.”
  • Under Alexa Preferences, choose Communication.
  • Select “Skype.”
  • Sign in to your Microsoft account.
  • Accept the permissions.
  • Click “Save.”

Now, your Echo Show 15 is all set up to use Skype. You can call anyone on your contact list by saying “Alexa, call (name) on Skype” or simply, “Alexa, Skype (name).” This option not only lets you call other Echo devices, but also allows you to call any device that supports Skype.

Wrapping Up

While other Echo devices, including the Echo Show 8 and Echo Show 10, support Zoom, the Echo Show 15 does not have this option available yet. According to Amazon, this feature will become available later this year.

For now, you will have to use either the Alexa App or Skype to place video calls. The Alexa App only lets you call other Echo devices, while Skype allows you to call any of your contacts no matter what device they are using.
