Smart home devices are getting easier and easier to use! However, with all these modern conveniences, sometimes it seems as though you need a million and one devices to make your tech devices run smoothly. If you have or are thinking of purchasing a Fire Stick Lite, you are probably wondering: Do you need Alexa to use the Fire Stick Lite?

You do not need Alexa to use a Fire Stick Lite. The USB device that allows you to stream your favorite entertainment directly to your television has Alexa capability built in. If you want to use the Fire Stick Lite without Alexa, you can simply disable it.

In this article, we are going to discuss exactly how the Fire Stick Lite works, how to use the built in Alexa option, and how to disable it if you don’t want to use it! So keep reading, because we have absolutely everything you need to know about Alexa and your Fire Stick Lite.

How Can You Control a Fire Stick Lite?

Before we dig a little deeper into how the Fire Stick Lite works with or without Alexa, it’s first important to understand exactly what this tiny device does and how it works.

The Fire Stick Lite is an Amazon streaming device that is only the size of a USB thumb drive. The little machine plugs directly into your TV and with it, you can watch endless hours of your favorite programs on a variety of streaming sites.

When you purchase a Fire Stick Lite, it comes with its own remote control. It’s small, simple, and easy to use. All you need to do is adjust the input setting on your television to access the USB option, from there, you will see the Fire Stick Lite screen and be able to control it with the provided remote!

However, because Amazon wanted to make your life just a little easier and most people don’t like having multiple remotes they have to find, you can also control your Fire Stick Lite with just your voice through the Alexa feature.

Do You Need to Purchase an Alexa Device to Use Alexa on Fire Stick Lite?

One of the most common questions when it comes to using the Alexa feature to control the Fire Stick Lite is whether or not you need to purchase an additional Alexa gadget, like a smart home hub.

The answer is no, you do not need another Alexa device in your home in order to use the voice control feature on the Fire Stick Lite!

For those of you who seem to always be misplacing the remote and love the idea of being able to control the device with just your voice, this is great news! However, you will need the Alexa app on your phone.

If you don’t already have it downloaded, simply pop over to your app store and select the Alexa app. Then, open the app, sign in to your Amazon account and follow the instructions listed below.

  • In the app, navigate to the TV & Video Menu.
  • Your Fire Stick Lite should appear on the list of available connections.
  • Select the Fire Stick Lite and click to connect.

That’s all there is to it! You can now use your voice to control your Fire Stick Lite.

If you do not want to use the Alexa feature, you don’t have to!

How to Disable Alexa on Fire Stick Lite

Here’s the thing, if you do not follow the above instructions to enable the Alexa option on your Fire Stick Lite, there’s no need to disable it because it hasn’t yet been connected!

However, if you have used the Alexa capability on the device and now want to turn it off, you will need to follow these instructions.

  • Open the Alexa app.
  • Navigate to the TV & Video Menu.
  • Select the Fire Stick Lite and select the option to disconnect.

Technically, the Alexa option is not disabled but simply disconnected from your Fire Stick Lite. If you truly want to remove Alexa, you will have to take the microphone out of the remote which can be challenging.

Final Thoughts

So, do you need Alexa to use Fire Stick Lite? Absolutely not!

You can easily control the streaming device from Amazon with the included remote control. Using voice commands via Alexa is simply an option, and if you never enable it, you won’t have to disconnect it! Also, if you do want to use Alexa at any point, you don’t need to purchase an extra device, the Fire Stick Lite has everything you need to use Alexa right now.

But remember, if you don’t want any microphones in your home that even can connect to the Alexa platform, you will need to remove the microphone from the remote itself.
