House with all the lights on

Blink Outdoor Cameras offer a way for you to protect your home, inside and out. The device is built for the outdoors, with features such as the ability to withstand the elements. However, you may be wondering if the device has night vision to pick up activity even when the sun goes away.

Blink Outdoor Cameras do have night vision. The device uses infrared night vision to help detect motion in the dark and allows you to see footage during Live View.

When choosing an outdoor security camera for your home, it’s essential that the device has night vision so you can see what goes on around your property, night and day. With the Blink Outdoor Camera, you can be sure that your home is protected around the clock. Continue reading to learn more about the Blink Outdoor Camera’s night vision and how to get the most out of it.

Do Blink Outdoor Cameras Have Night Vision?

Blink Outdoor Cameras are equipped with infrared night vision; the camera uses infrared LED lights that give your camera the ability to pick up recording even in low-light situations. This helps your camera more accurately detect movement and provides more security to your home.

The best part about Blink is that it is not only the outdoor cameras that come with infrared night vision. All other models and versions of Blink cameras come with these capabilities as well, ensuring your camera will always be able to detect motion despite where it is placed and whether it is light or dark in that area.

Here is a list of all of the Blink products that use infrared night vision:

How to Use Night Vision on Blink Outdoor Cameras

The good news is that your Blink Outdoor Camera (along with the other cameras) will automatically use its infrared technology automatically when deemed necessary. Therefore, you do not need to worry about activating it manually.

However, Blink does offer the ability to manually adjust the intensity of the infrared LED light so you can be sure your camera is detecting movement in the clearest format possible.

Here is how to access your device’s infrared settings:

  1. Have the Blink Home Monitor app downloaded and set up with your devices.
  2. Open the app and go to the home page.
  3. Select the slider icon in the top corner, which will give you a drop-down option.
  4. Select Settings from the drop-down options.
  5. Select Night Vision under Settings.
  6. Adjust the intensity here as you find best.

Understanding the Infrared Adjustable Intensity

Now, you may be wondering why you would need to adjust the infrared intensity if the camera already uses it automatically. While the Blink devices are advanced and are usually top-notch at being accurate, there can still always be room for imperfection.

If you ever take a look at your camera’s stream and notice that maybe it is too dark or that the infrared light is actually set too high and the feed is too bright, it is always good to know you have the option to adjust it yourself.

When dealing with adjusting the intensity of the infrared light, you will be given three options:

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High

You can adjust accordingly based on the placement of your camera and whether or not the infrared is necessary or not. For example, if it is dusk and still a little light outside, but your camera automatically turns the IR night vision on, the LED may be too intense for that time of day and may make your video quality unclear. For instances like this, it may be best to select “medium” intensity.

In this area of settings, you will also be able to have total night vision control, meaning if you don’t even want the infrared LED light on at all for some reason, you can turn it off for the time being.

In the night vision control settings, you will have these options:

  • Off: IR Illuminator will not function.
  • On: IR Illuminator remains on at all times and will not adjust based on the environment around it.
  • Auto: IR Illuminator will automatically adjust to what is deemed best.

In Summary

The Blink Outdoor Camera comes with night vision—infrared LED lighting that helps detect motion in the dark. All of the other Blink cameras are equipped with night vision as well, giving every area of your home all-around security.

The infrared light is a useful tool that helps detect motion when it gets darker out, being sure that nothing gets missed outside during the night. You can even adjust the intensity of the IR light and personalize what you feel is the best intensity for it at any time. With the Blink Outdoor Camera, you are not only guaranteed night vision, but you also have complete control over it.
