Can’t Hear Siri on CarPlay? Try This

If you’re anything like me, you love being able to connect your iPhone to your car through CarPlay and easily tell Siri to make a call, direct you to your destination, or change the song! But when you’re trying to talk to Siri, and you can’t hear her, it can be incredibly frustrating, right?

If you can’t hear Siri on CarPlay, it’s because:

• Siri is not turned on. 
• The volume on one or several of your apps isn’t turned up. 
• Your iPhone needs an update.
• Your smart stereo system needs an update. 

Turn On Siri

Although it might sound too good to be true, the problem could be solved by simply turning on Siri! 

I know from personal experience that sometimes the most obvious solution is usually the one that actually works, especially when it comes to technological problems. 

So to ensure your Siri is turned on and your iPhone is connected correctly to your CarPlay, here’s what you need to do:

• Open the Settings menu on your iPhone. 
• Select Siri & Search.
• Ensure the Siri toggle is set to ON. 
• Make sure your stereo is set to Bluetooth. 
• Turn on the WiFi on your iPhone.
• Tap to connect to the Carplay network.
• Ensure Auto-Join is turned to ON.
• Navigate to Settings.
• Select General.
• Tap CarPlay. 

That’s all there is to it! Now, not only will your Siri be turned on, but your iPhone will be successfully connected to your CarPlay. If that solved your problem, you’re done! 

Turn Up the Volume

Once again, the problem may be simpler than you could have imagined: the volume may not be turned up! 

Now, this problem usually occurs when you have the volume up on your speaker and iPhone, but not on the individual app you’re trying to use with Siri. 

Most commonly, users have reported this happening when attempting to use the maps app, but no matter which app you’re using, the instructions are the same.

On your CarPlay screen, open the app and look around the screen for the volume settings. It can often be found in one of the 4 corners of the app on the screen. And once you’ve turned it up, you should hear Siri clearly! 

However, if that still didn’t do the trick, don’t worry. There are two more easy tactics to try. 

Update Your iPhone

Another common issue that people encounter is that they cannot hear Siri because they have not updated their iPhones. 

Most of us simply ignore that little notification that says our devices need updates, as they mean we will have to stop using our phones or even clean out our storage. But updates are incredibly important. 

If you don’t update your iPhone when instructed to do so, it won’t be running on the newest iOS firmware or software, which can mean that Siri won’t be working properly on the phone or on CarPlay.

Therefore, if you can’t hear Siri on CarPlay, you should open your iPhone and head to the updates menu, and run whatever updates are waiting there for you. 

Update Your Smart Stereo System

Finally, you may need to update the firmware or software of your smart stereo system. Just like phones and tablets, many stereo systems also need to be updated from time to time. 

When it comes to updating your stereo system, each one is a little different. If you can easily find the update menu within the settings menu and run whatever update it’s recommending. 

But if you can’t, you should check your user manual or contact the manufacturer to find out how to do so.
