Samsung TV Plus is a free, ad-supported streaming platform available to Samsung device owners. Recently, however, Samsung expanded this platform to allow anyone to access the service free from their web browser. After this expansion, some began to wonder: can you get Samsung TV Plus on Roku devices?

At this time, you cannot download Samsung TV Plus from the Roku Store. However, there are still a couple of ways you can use this free streaming service with your Roku TV or streaming stick. You can either do this using Airplay or through a web browser installed on your Roku device.

Below, we’ll discuss more information on Samsung TV Plus, as well as a couple of ways you can get it on your Roku device. Keep reading to learn more.

What is Samsung TV Plus?

Samsung TV Plus was initially launched as a video rental service for Samsung device owners, but has since expanded into a video streaming platform. It’s set up similarly to a traditional cable TV guide and includes a variety of TV shows, movies, and music.

Samsung TV Plus is completely free to use. It’s available on both Samsung’s Galaxy Store and the Google Play Store, so users who own devices that use either of these can access it.  Recently, the company has also expanded to the web. Anyone with a web browser can visit Samsung TV Plus online to enjoy a variety of content.

How to Watch Samsung TV Plus on Roku

Unfortunately, Samsung TV Plus has not yet made its way to the Roku Store. However, there are a couple of ways you can still use this platform with your Roku device. These include using either Airplay or a Roku web browser.

Watch Samsung TV Plus with Airplay

If you have an Apple computer, you can use Roku’s Airplay feature to watch Samsung TV Plus. You’ll need to visit Samsung TV Plus on your web browser, and then use Airplay to mirror your computer screen to the TV. Here’s how to use Airplay:

  1. Connect your Apple device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Roku.
  2. Next, enable Airplay on your Roku. From your home menu, select “Settings,” then “Apple Airplay and HomeKit.” Make sure Airplay is set to “On.”
  3. Open “System Preferences” from your computer’s dock, and choose “Displays.” At the bottom of this page, check the box that says, “Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available.”
  4. Right above this box, you’ll see a drop-down menu labeled “Airplay Display.” Choose your Roku device from this menu.
  5. You may have to enter a passcode from the Roku screen. Once you do, your computer screen will start mirroring to your Roku screen.
  6. Finally, visit Samsung TV Plus on your web browser and choose the show you want to watch.

Keep in mind that not all Roku devices support Airplay. Install any available updates, then navigate to your Settings to see if you have options for “Apply Airplay and HomeKit.” If so, you can use this method. If not, you’ll have to move on to the next technique.

Download a Web Browser from the Roku Store

When you visit the Roku Store, you’ll see a couple of different options for downloadable web browsers. These work just like the web browsers you have on your computer, so you will be able to visit Samsung TV Plus online and view their array of content this way.

Different web browsers offer different capabilities. While some will let you watch video, others cannot handle media bandwidth. Look in the app description before you download it to see if it supports video streaming. While it’s not an ideal option, paid browsers are usually more capable than free ones.

The Roku Channel

If neither of the above methods work for you, there is an alternative. Instead of using Samsung TV Plus, try The Roku Channel.

Like Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel offers free content to anyone with a Roku account. You’ll need to register for a free account, but then you can watch a wide selection of TV shows, movies, sports, and more. You can even add premium channels for a fee, including:

  • HBO
  • Epix
  • Starz
  • Cinemax
  • Showtime

In short, The Roku Channel is essentially Roku’s version of Samsung TV Plus. While it doesn’t have quite as nice of a layout, it offers many of the same features.

The Bottom Line

Since Samsung TV Plus has recently expanded to accommodate web users, many people are wondering if they can access this streaming service on their Roku device. While the app is not currently available for download on the Roku Store, there are a couple of ways you may be able to use it on your Roku device.

You might want to try Airplaying your web-connected device to your Roku TV, or downloading a web browser from the Roku Store. If all else fails, you can try using The Roku Channel, which is essentially Roku’s equivalent to Samsung TV Plus.
