Can You Get Among Us on Fire HD 8?
Amazon’s Fire HD 8 tablet began as a budget alternative to other tablets that are the giants of the industry. However, Amazon has always stuck with an alternate version of the Android OS. This may beg the question of whether you can download popular games like Among Us on the device.
Because Fire Tablets run Amazon’s version of Android, you can’t just download games like Among Us as you would on an Android device. Fortunately, it can be done, but you will have to jump through some additional hoops.
Among Us has become an incredibly popular game of deduction, or process of elimination, with multiple players and well over 60 million downloads. It would be a shame if an entire subsection of Fire Tablet owners couldn’t join in the fun. Read on to learn more about how you can get Among Us on your Fire HD 8.
Will Among Us Download on the Fire HD 8?
Amazon Fire Tablets run on a different version of Android OS; however, that won’t affect your ability to download games such as Among Us after successfully downloading the APK files for the Google PlayStore.
From there, visit the Play Store, enter “Among Us” in the search bar, select and download the game. It doesn’t cost any money on the PlayStore or on the Apple app store. It only costs money if you get the PC version or through Steam.
Among Us isn’t the only game on the menu either. You have the entire gaming and app library that the Amazon App store has to offer, and now you will also have all of the gaming apps and all of the productivity apps from the Google PlayStore at your disposal as well.
The first objective is to download the Google PlayStore, but you can’t do that directly either, not without allowing downloads from “other sources.”
- Open the Settings app from the Home tab.
- Locate and select Security & Privacy.
- Select Apps from Unknown Sources.
- Select Silk Browser.
- Toggle the option on for Allow from this source.
Of course, that’s not all there is to it. It’s never quite that simple in the end. Now you need to download four APK files, but before doing so, go ahead and remove the microSD card from the Fire HD 8. You’ll want to do this because sometimes you can lose the information stored on the microSD card when you begin the download process for the Google PlayStore. If you don’t have a microSD card inserted, you don’t have anything to worry about.
You also need to know exactly what model/version of the Fire HD 8 you have. If you are uncertain, return to the Settings Menu. Go to Device Options > About Fire Tablet.
Download the Appropriate Files
Now, there are four files that you need to download and once you’re on the page, be sure to select the most recent APK for your particular Fire HD 8:
- Google Account Manager: 7.1.2 (Android 6.0+)
- Google Services Framework: 7.1.2 (Android 7.1+)
- Google Play Services: (arm64-v8a + arm-v7a) (nodpi) (Android 9.0+)
- Google Play Store: (Universal)
Once all four are downloaded, you will have to install them one by one, in a very specific order.
- Open the Files app.
- Select Downloads.
- Begin downloading the files:
Those four files need to be downloaded one at a time, fully completing each one in descending order from top to bottom. Once you have all four downloaded and installed, reboot your Fire HD 8.
When the tablet boots back up, you will see the familiar Google PlayStore logo on the screen normally, as it would look with any other app that you have or will download. Simply open the app and sign in with your username and password for Google.
If you experience any problems, it’s usually because the Google PlayStore needs to update. So give it some time, perhaps half an hour. You can even reboot your Fire Tablet again if necessary, but it should be fine.
Now that you have the APK files that you need to download and install, you will be playing Among Us on your Fire HD 8 before you know it. You may have to jump through some additional hoops to get there, but it’s well worth it in the end.
On a much happier note, although Among Us 2 was canceled, the developer has announced that all of the new content created and planned for the sequel will now become an update for the original. So it looks like you’ll get it all anyway and on a Fire HD 8 to boot.
