The Amazon Fire TV Cube has extended the company’s effort by combining entertainment and technology to support smart homes. It’s an additional television accessory that is doubled as a voice controlled smart home hub. However, you may be wondering if you can control your smart lights with the Fire TV Cube without having Alexa or Google Home.

With the Fire TV Cube you could not only voice control your favorite entertainment, but the new Fire TV can also control your home theater, smart lights, television, security, cable boxes and other appliances. The idea is to make the television simpler for people.

The Fire TV Cube has the same controls as the Echo speaker on top and it’s advisable to place your Cube at least one foot away from your speakers. But, how do we connect the smart light to the Fire TV Cube and what smart light can you possibly use for an Alexa? Keep reading no more about the features of the Fire TV Cube.

How to Setup the Smart Light Using the Fire TV Cube

The Amazon Fire TV Cube can control Philips Hue and Wyze Labs smart home lights. These lights can be turned on or off and can even be dimmed with your voice commands. If the smart light supports these features, the Fire TV Cube can also change the light color.

Here are steps to setup your smart LED light/bulbs to the Fire TV Cube:

  1. Download the “Smart life” app.
  2. Open the app and tap the blue + on the top right corner.
  3. You would see a menu pop at the side, scroll and tap on ‘Lighting’.
  4. On the screen you would see bulbs with different categories, tap on ‘Light source Wi-Fi’.
  5. Then, tap on 2.4 gigahertz. This is because most internet services do not support 5 gigahertz yet.
  6. Once you tap on the 2.4GHz, put in your Wi-Fi network and password. Click next.
  7. Reset the device to blink rapidly.
  8. Power the device
  9. Turn the switch on and off 3 times.
  10. Ensure the bulb is blinking rapidly
  11. The bulb should not be blinking slowly or it wouldn’t be able to pair to the device.
  12. Once the light is blinking rapidly, click confirm on your mobile device.
  13. It would take 3 minutes for your smart light to pair.

Once the bulbs are finished pairing, you can rename them for easy access to controlling your bulb with Alexa. The section to rename would appear once the pairing is done and you would select which location a smart light is placed.

The smart light can easily be controlled by the app, if you don’t feel like controlling it with voice. You can change the color of the light as well as the brightness. The smart life app can be a bit of a tactic, fortunately it can be connected to the amazon app, which makes it easier to control lights.

How to Setup the Smart Life App to the Amazon App

Follow these steps to set up your Smart Life app on Amazon:

  4. Tap on Devices on the bottom right and click the + on the upper right to select a device.
  5. Scroll down and select the brand of your smart light. If you can’t see the light brand, scroll all the way down and select others.
